Canadian's Stay away from COLDSTEEL!!

First off,
Crayola, thanks for your support. It's nice to know that even when a fray is looming, that you've got a friend to stand by. For Keith, it's also nice to have someone to let you know when you've stepped out of line. Thanks to the both of you.

As for the syrup, I didn't actually buy any... I shoplift it from the local trendy markets. :)

I apologize for calling Brightblade a moron, but do stand by the statement that he's blaming the wrong party for his woes. As a matter of fact, he's probably depriving himself since CS does make good knives at very low prices if purchased from the right retailer.

shoptimax sukks, took me 8 (EIGHT!!!!!) weeks to get an M2 surefire bezel, they did slowly answer mail, but it went from a week/10 days to a month to the next week to (well ya get it i think)..........

but anyway, they aint the best imho, i'm sure if anyone is to blame for sslloowww delivery, its the good folks at optimax or shoptimax or what ever they call themselves.

i posted on GB&U about them, just wondering if anyone had dealt w/them, about 2 wks into the deal, and no one replied, so i didnt know if:

*they were slow
*they were gonna rip me off (they charged my CC w/in a wk of the purchase, NOT shipping)
*slow cuz the bezel was hard to get (probably the reason imho)
*what was going on.

why did i order from them?? i think surefires website kicked me to them, or maybe i found them in a search?? anyway, they had the bezel so i went for it, lol. i ended up getting the thing, but took a little longer than i had hoped it would.

I agree that Brightblade(?) made a mistake in posting this without getting his facts straight and that it was posted on the wrong forum, but I don't think that throwing insults at him serves any good purpose at all. It would have been just as easy to tell him what you thought of his comments without calling him a moron or inferring that he was stupid. A little common courtesy should be shown to everyone.

As I said a while back, civility has gone down-hill at BladeForums over the past two years and some of these young guys need to learn tact.

It's easy to hurl insults and act tough when you're hiding behind an anonymous profile behind a computer. Doesn't take a genius.

It's more difficult to discuss things civilly but more rewarding to take the time to be helpful and to educate or inform a fellow forumite.

Brightblade,

As others have mentioned, Cold Steel is only one of many cogs in the wheel. It could be lost anywhere in the chain between the you placing the order and your mailman. Therefore, it is "heresay" to exclusively blame Cold Steel or their on-line ordering system.

If you used a credit card, you may want to call them and see what they can do about having the transaction stopped.

Hate to tell you this but -- as someone alluded to -- Canada customs, and Canada Post are not above suspicion. My friend, a postal inspector, says he sees workers at the clearing center opening and playing with mail order items all the time at Canada Post. Yes, it's part of their job to inspect packages but they do cross the line. My friend saw one lady trying on a diamond ring that was coming in via mail order. Unfortunately, this is ignored by management as the unions are too powerful.

Shipping without insurance is always a gamble. If you are doing this you may at the very least want to ask the person on the other end to send you a copy of the shipping receipt.

I am Canadian and I buy my knives here:

www.knifezone.ca

Good service here and the prices are competitive!

The point i am trying to establish is that when you place an order on the COLDSTEEL website the ONLY option is to use SHOPTIMAX. Now my point is that Coldsteel has endorsed! Customer's using them, and so i was trying to illustrate the troubles ive had. Instead i get some childish retorts from people with no better use for there lives than to annoy others. A simple warning falling of deaf ears. COLDSTEEL suggest's using shoptimax. Well from the mouth on the Customer service rep @shoptimax... "orders to Canada are using a new procedure and has not been tested, or proved realiable. .....and to MelancholyMutt maybe it just the taste on your forked, sour tongue that spoils the Canadian Maple syrup!... i suggest you slither back to the hole from which you came.

full tang has hit it dead on
if you won't say it to that person's face, don't type it
i'm pretty sure you won't call someone a moron within 5 minutes of talking to him, no matter HOW whiny he is

A number of people have implied that law enforcement officers might have stolen this article. What evidence, other than anecdote, is there that this may have happened?

Thanks,

Bill

in my country, customs officials are not LEOs
it might be different over in canada, but i don't think they were referring to these gentlemen
i am thinking they are more likely talking about the handlers and fowarders instead

This is it in a nut shell you can find most products cheaper from the right retailer.Search engines are the only way to surf the net.In fact www.ixquick.com is my start page.I made this same mistake and even posted about how lousy Cold Steel SpecialProjects website was so slow and had such lousy service.Come to find out my card company was bought out and when they switched from visa to mastercard and even changed my card number they had not yet charged my card and when they did it was denied. Also come to find out the guy from Special Projects had been trying to contact me I just didnt reconize the # on my caller ID. I have had dealings several times with CS and they are a very pleasent company to deal with. If you had contacted Cold Steel directly I would bet they would have tried or corrected the problem. If you are looking for CS knives and goodies and now they even carry emersons for a great price try. Botach Tachtical they are great. There knives and other products are on sale and even cheaper regularly. http://botachtactical.com/microtools.html .......RB (edited for lousy spelling)

WARNING, WARNING, WARNING!!! Before you purchase anything from Botach Tactical check them out on the GB&U forum and check them out with their States Better Business Bureau. This company has an overall terrible reputation. You have a very good chance of having a bad experience with Botach.

You know I have read the bad reviews on Botach Tactical and I would have to say I am surprised at how many there are. I have been doing biz with them for at least 3 years and have ordered at least a dozen times. The only time I had trouble with them is when they were changing there website which took them 3 or 4 months to get through the transition. I had a communication problem about a gas mask they had in stock I wanted and they never sent. After calling I found out the last two they had of this paticular type the lenses were damaged and they were trying to get more. I have found that with most of these companys that if you talk to the where house guys directly you will get the real story and what is in stock and what isnt.I guess I am one of the lucky ones because I am going to continue to do biz with them...................RB I have had more than an average share of nightmares with online companies and it is a piss off.Mostly because you cant go down there and raise hell and internet companies can hide behind there monitor.

Then, as a Canadian, I would be pleased to offer you a full refund of your purchase price.

Honestly? No evidence at all. I was suggesting that there are a myriad of things that could have gone awry at any point of the knife being ordered and delivered.

Perhaps it's just delayed, or maybe the order wasn't even processed. Who knows?

The important thing is for the fella to check all avenues. Usually, when you order online through a secure website ordering form, you'll get a receipt. There is often a contact e-mail. I would start there.

However, my anecdote was to raise awareness for everyone who partakes in mail-orders. Sadly, there are dishonest people in positions of trust like the post office and customs. Not everyone; but there a few as in life.

If you're ordering a $30 knife, insurance might not be such a big concern but be careful when ordering custom knives costing several hundreds. GET THE INSURANCE!

Well, I would say it to his face, but he's not here and you can easily tell if someone is an idiot within a minute of him opening his mouth.

Do you ever have anything positive to say? It's obvious that you have a chip on your shoulder a mile long.

Yes, I do have positive things to say, just not about you, or your buttbuddies, and it is none of your business how big the chip on my shoulder is.

brightbade: for ordering Cold Steel knives in Canada, try Lebaron's, a Canadian company. (http://www.lebaron.ca)

Also, MelancholyMutt talked mean to me recently, in a thread. He insulted me, and Canadians in general. I've been crying about it ever since. Boo Hoo. ( I make zee joke, n'est pas?)

Seriously, MM does have a chip on his shoulder, probably a cow chip. But, as MM has boasted about many times before, MM is independently wealthy and doesn't have to work, so I guess he can say whatever he wants. I should send my Beagle doggy out after him.

Next?

I'm independently impoverished myself, so I don't have to work for a living, either. :p But the last time I looked at a map, Canadians were Americans too, and honestly I can't tell the difference over the internet unless they tell me they weren't BORN IN THE U.S.A.

So how about negotiating an end to this World War Two-and-a-half and go back to discussing the Stanley Cup -- politely, of course, as always! :D

No way! I never back off from a fight! Especially if somebody insults me, or my country, or my doily collection! Get yer dukes up, MM!

And, if MM is giving back his maple syrup, then I'm giving back my soy sauce - all of it!! And I use a lot of soy sauce - Yamasa, Kimlan, Mongo, Kikoman, SAM, etc.

So there!!!!!
