Canal Street Cutlery Is Closing Again?

This is great news. I'm sure you will have great success.

Hey folks! Just wanted to update everyone since there are a lot of questions out there as to what's going on. Canal Street's going to be closing down once we get all the parts assembled for outstanding orders. Wally wanted to give it one more try but I think trying to sell knives wholesale, where you have to generate large numbers in a short period of time to make any money, just doesn't cut it when you've only got two guys trying to hammer 'em out. There's no money to be made that way. Per hour you could make triple the pay at McDonalds, or more! We did a bunch for Moore Maker that we're wrapping up now. Then I have another 50 to do for Red Trout, and that should about do it save for a couple dozen stragglers that may or may not get made.
Don't despair though; once that's all done I'm going to be lighting out on my own. I'm going to be starting my own cutlery company with a total of 1 employee, me. I think that's the only way to make a go of it, and I'm determined to make it work. No wholesale either. I'm going to be doing 20 or so at a time and put them up for sale as I get those lots finished. Probably every two to three weeks or so. At least that's my plan so far. I'll be starting out with a single blade jack and a sheath knife, then expanding from there. Slowly. This is an expensive business to get started with a lot of expenditure up front, so I can't rush into things being the poor sap that I am lol.
I should be starting assembly in about a month, so I'll do a little post and let you know what's up then. I want to upgrade my membership to Knifemaker first so I don't step on any toes here as I may be selling on the exchange as well.

Start a go fund me or Kickstarter or ... page to get started and let all those praising you put our money where our mouth's are. I'd put money up to help you with that first capital investment to get started. I did this a long time ago with Mr. Bob Andrews when he was testing the waters for his first SFO.

Bob did a Kickstarter campaign? I never would have guessed.

I look forward to what you do ea42 ea42 I don't have any CSC knives as I wasn't really aware of them till too late and when CSC revived as the Co-Op I lost out on most chances to pick up anything though few patterns where what I was really interested in.

I am not sure about doing a Kickstarter that platform was good at its start but now its kind of fallen on its face.

I'll be running CPM154CM stainless on the folders and sheath knives. The brand will be "Albers Cutlery Company", "Albers Cut Co USA" on the tangs.

Great news, Eric! I wish the best for you.
Where do I preorder!? :)

Thanks everyone, I REALLY appreciate the kind words! It's great inspiration! By the way I'll likely be doing some in that blue rope jigged bone, gotta keep up the tradition. ;):)

Eric

Alright Eric, we will hold you to the blue rope promise!

I have a cannitler and the red trout single blade jack in it.

Need more!

Best of luck to you, looking forward to see what's comes out of your shop.

Err yuk I hate blue rope cut bone!
My Schrade trapper disgusts me...every time I see it...:p:eek::D
Now all i have to do is work out how to get one of these new ones when available..
Cheers Eric and best of luck.

Glad to see this revival. I have only one Canal Street Cutlery knife, the Boys Knife, but I like it so much that I put it in my avatar (showing off some amazing stag covers). Looking forward to seeing the new knives that will be coming out.

Sad to see CSC go as I have several I bought while in that part of NY. However, I'm excited to hear that Eric has a plan and will be watching for his knives in the future.

Best of luck to you! Please keep us posted.

I hope Eric has been able to make some of his knives while everyone else has been down.
Larry
