Cancelling membership with Knives Emporium

In the past they ran 'giveaways' open to anyone, so I entered the previous one for an XM-18. When I went to their site to sign up I saw where it said you'd get a 'monthly newsletter'. Ok, I could deal with that, so I signed up and entered. Of course the winner was some name no one ever heard of. But what annoyed me at the time was those so-called monthly newsletters were twice-weekly spams. After that GAW was over I mentioned that in the thread. KE didn't like that, and several BF'ers roasted me pretty good. A couple going so far as to call me a liar and a few other not so nice things. O don't think it's a coincidence that the very next 'GAW' required you to give your BF name to enter.

I did the same thing you guys did, changed my info to something bogus to end their spam.

They violated Texas penal code 32 a class a misdemeanor.

Maddogg, since you live in TX we nominate you to contact the proper authorities.:D If you have time that is.
Mention whats in the post below also if you do.

Went to the Sunbelt Microsystems website, the parent company that started Knivesemporium.com. They are a Web Marketing company. Heh.

Found this on a legal blog. If it is accurate, I think Sparks should start a suit or even a class-action:

"If a sweepstakes promotion allows nationwide participation, the promotion must comply not only with federal regulations, but also the regulations of each state. For example, in California, the Business and Professions Code governs the promotion of the sweepstakes while the Penal Code (criminal law) sets forth the definition of a lottery. In New York, if the value of the prize offered is more than $5,000.00 the law requires that consumer sweepstakes be registered and bonded 30 days before the commencement of the sweepstakes. The state of Florida also has bonding requirements for sweepstakes."

I have juno email. I have the Option to block someone email. can you do that?? I would just get his email then put a block on it. then no more emails from them.

Richard, I never signed up so I'm not getting emails. Thanks for mentioning it though.

Sad.
Even for a criminal. In Ancient greece, lacedemonians kids were encouraged to steal, in order to prove the ir cunning.
They were only punished...if they were caught red handed.
Really use The same email account? That's not only dishonesty, is plain and simple laziness.
I would't buy from knife emporium, not because I would be afraid of being cheated, but because they are dumb and lazy. I imagine that if you ask One model they would send you any other, late, poorly packaged, etc. Even worst, because The Shipping and stuff would be handed by employees. And if The Owner is dumb and lazy, what can you spect of The work ethics of their employees?
In Argentina we have a saying: if THAT is the head, I don't want to even imagine how the ass will be...

Anyone who registered for the giveaway can contact the Texas Attorney General's office as well as their own State office.

I composed a rather rude message with the info boxes. Made me smile :)

Yeah, I have some time tomorrow. It's the principle of what they did they bothers me. I love this forum, and feel protective of it. You don't come in here and pull this. I'll forward the relevant threads to AZ Attorney General Tom Horne tomorrow.

Wonder if "George" is having a bad day yet? :)

I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. Its Rusty Shackleford's excellent detective work that got me off the fence. When someone does something so sleazy it directly affects every other vendor on these forums. It might discourage members from patronizing other similar sites and that just sucks so much you-know-what.

They deserve much more than just a ban hammer.

I have been seriously contemplating what to do. I am talking to a criminal prosecutor friend of mine tomorrow. A lawyer friend of mine said a civil lawsuit wouldn't be worth it. It may come down to just a negative report to the BBB.

This thread has been sticky'd at the top of this section, just to make sure everyone can see it. ;)

This was just the most despicable kind of behavior that I have personally ever had the displeasure to deal with. Everyone should remember to not only change your information on their website, but also keep track of what you changed it to in case the information is needed in the event of legal action. Lets also remember to unlike them on Facebook if you clicked to like them before. Facebook also has a way to report them and have them removed from there for spam and or scamming. I noticed their 800 likes is down to 796 after I "unliked" them. Lets send the message loud and clear not to mess with this great community!

Well, I mean it's only fair.
This person and his crew padded their mailing list and Facebook presence under the guise of giving away an expensive knife. They won their own contest! This is a great example of why it's not a good idea to be so damn money hungry and greedy.

Thanks to Knives Emporium, Dealer's are no longer allowed to post giveaways where the entrants must sign up for a website, like their Facebook page, or anything else. If any giveaway is for Bladeforums members, then it needs to be held here, on Bladeforums, no strings attached, period.

Just saw the pictures Rusty Shackleford posted and am disgusted to learn I share the same city with this person.

Edited to add: Address is residential. Two companies look to be listed there. One, Sunbelt Microsystems Inc, lists a woman (initials B.D.) as the contact as well as the owner. The other, Software Engineering of Texas Inc., lists Roland Roesbeke as the contact. A (previous?) company, Perfect Solutions, was also located at that address as a Copy/Fax Machine wholesaler. Info may or may not be beneficial but wanted to throw it out there.

From FB.

It is more than evident at this moment that we are under fire of running a giveaway under false pretenses, most specifically, the Bladeforums exclusive XM-24 giveaway.

Now I'm not here to whine or pout or to try to give excuses. Many accusations have been made, some of them justly so, many, not. If anything we are to blame as the many concerns that were brought up on the forum were NOT promptly addressed and was neglected by us. That said, I'm asking the community to give us a chance--not to "redeem" ourselves as in the minds of many, we're already considered trash, but to explain the entirety of this giveaway situation. As I feel, though you may not agree, that one should always give the benefit of the doubt.

This situation, even a "scandal" as one could put it, grew quickly through the course of a few days and we had not the patience nor the time to address all the different accusations. Regardless, we are not excused nor exempt from neglecting them. Yet as as much fault we may be, the community is NOT aware of the entirety of the situation and many claims, remain false or unsupported.

At the moment, as you can imagine, this whole ordeal has taken a toll or 2 on my current state of mind whilst adding to my stress. It's getting late and I'll be needing some rest. But I just like to make it known that in the next few days, we will post up a detailed response, attempting to address most if not all of the concerns and accusations using concrete evidence if possible for those, and rightfully so who doubt our word.

Now what do we hope to get out of this? Redemption??--yeah right......like that's going to happen. Looking at things from a broader perspective our reputation is likely never to be completely restored. But at the very least the truth, or a larger scope of this situation, will be brought to light and open to the discerning eyes of the knife community. Until then--continue as you please.

Respectfully,
The Knives Emporium Team
