TAD gear skull beads...beads for Tactical lanyars and what not. 175 bucks at www.truenorthknives.com why anybody would spend that much money on a bead when you can get a decent knife for that money...am i missing somthing?? thoughts?

The beads are made by Starlingear- they're produced in limited numbers and are "collectible"- and can be seen as "art objects" of a sort. There are plenty of guys who are willing to pay that much for Starlingear beads, FWIW. They have a following on other forums, and are friends/ sometimes collaborators with Strider.

Hope this helps!

It's lost on me also - I guess if you have lots of extra income it makes sense.

There are too many knives I want and not enough money to be spending it on decorations!

To each his own...

Why is it that as long as people "don't comprehend" something it's automatically becomes :thumbdn:?
I wouldn't buy them either, not my thing, BUT if you see them there at that price it means that there are others who do buy those beads and are very happy with their purchases.
I feel very sorry for those who turn everything they "don't comprehend" into such a negative experience.

PS Insomniac, don't let little things like that bother you so much, maybe you'll finally get some sleep :D

As I learned from a link in another BladeForums post this week, I can buy human carpal bones for $2 each.

For far less than the cost of one fake skull bead I could string a lanyard with actual human wrist bones. Seems like a much better value to me.

Those beads are great, for what real purpose, I don't know but to look at they are cool. There is a little elitist sect that has to have them dangling from every Strider they own, its all status like a Beemer or a Paneri. god bless them all.

There better be a link coming.

Hahaha, I'm sure a lot of 'normal' people have serious concerns about people who spend as much money on knives as bladeforums members :p

Different strokes for different folks. If someone wants to buy $175 skull beads, let 'em fill their pockets.

You could say this about any other expensive collection. Other people don't understand my need for knives, and I don't understand other people's need for pokemon cards or Precious Moments or whatnot.

The difference is that knives are useful!

I like the way they look by themselves in pictures but I wouldn't want one dangling from my knife, especially if it's a hard user considering the price of the beads.I will probably never buy one either.

they a ss,so they are gonna cost you,i use pewter i guess, some of mine are $30 bux each i dig lanyards............

Yeap.

The main thing I would be concerned about , it today's PC world is , say you had to defend yourself with your Strider with it's Nightmare grind and sheeple scaring looks with the skull bead dangling off the lanyard , and the case goes to court...... :D better get a damn good lawyer.

I bet on some level in the eyes of the right observer we all look pretty stupid at times regarding what we spend money on.

Think about it.

Its a great status symbol, look at what's on my 400 dollar knife, a 175 dollar bead.

But, if someone, and their are many someones, who spend thousands on knives, what's 175?

I've always liked the shark tooth laynard found on greg lightfoot folders.

Don't you know, anyone who likes pocketknives (or motorcycles, or music, or whatever) must have some sort of death fetish. :barf:

I guess you could think of those as a form of jewellery, related to knives in this case. I don't dig the whole skull thing myself and none of my knives have any lanyards in the first place. But hey if someone likes to dress up their knife with those silver beads then that's cool and fine by me.

Im going to have my 500% cheaper slippie with regular paracord and be happier than with such expensive knife with expensive lanyard skulls... Sorry if Im offensive, but that's what how I think it is. Expensive stuff makes you worry about it, be obsessive about it... And you know it's true.
