You must become the Decider, we the 'Heads (and hangers on) cannot do this for you. I will state clearly that I concur with every single one of the most salient posts so far.....you should definitely get a Becker. That Was Easy® now, wasn't it?

To be a little less obtuse, get the 4,5 and 15, as they're on closeout and will be a little bit more difficult to come by. Of those 3, I'd say the 15 and 4 are shizznit. I have a 5, but I don't love it as much as the other two mentioned. Or.....get whatever the hell strikes your fancy. None of US knows what floats yer boat, and these sorts of decisions are rarely pragmatic. I have a bunch of fighters, 'cause I love the way they look and feel in my hand.....but if threatened, I'll run as fast as I can before I try to get a knife in my hand. Still.....I own a few daggers, stilettos and fighting knives.

I paid for about 2 years for the same reason got a new bank card and finally let it go lol. Sadly, its shutting down in, I think, this March?

Not shutting down, just stopping support for PS2 and XBOX, it will still run on PC for the foreseeable future, though the last major content update just released last month but they will still be releasing small updates. Love that game.

Anyway sorry for the derail, I have a BK9 and I believe it truly is a near perfect blade and everyone should try one out at least once, it is perfect for 90% of people I'd say. Also I want an 11...

So i just got my new bk5 and it only came with the black handles...i thought they came with both the black and brown handle scales...if im wrong then so be it..if not i need to be contacting the seller. Dont get me wrong..im loving this thing already and making plans to strip and patina it and trying to decide on what to do for adding grip to the handle. Thanks for all the advice guys

Only the tweeners came with two set of scales, full sized ones came only on grivory, i guess there is no need to contact the seller, congrats on you new 5 !!!

Ok..😞..thanks for the info. I was hoping for the two sets so i could play with the dremel on one set. Still im loving the balance on this thing. Thinking about getting the micarta scales for it...any input you guys can give is greatly appreciated.

If you wanna improve the grip, using a piece of bike inner tube could be a good option for.

On the full size, yes.

I would suggest hitting it with some 40 or 60 grit sandpaper. That is what I did with my 5 and I used it in a meat plant for about two months/6 days a week.
If it didn't slip while covered in blood and fat, you will be fine. I still use it for yard work on a weekly basis and carry it on my hip when camping.

Edit: you can use a dremel or a soldering iron for stipling. There is a handle modification thread around here that will prove useful.

Edit to add: nice handle Doc.
Keep your skepticism about you, as HST once said;
"I have a theory that the truth is never told during the nine-to-five hours."

Just got the 4 and 5 and i must say i love the 5, its awesome and i wouldnt even know where to start on what i like about it. It just feels right in your hand.

Well shit..i just noticed that my new bk5 is bowed to the left ever so slightly. I just e-mailed the seller and hopefully they will exchange it..if not i guess i will try ka-bar and see what happens. Luckily its veen raining since i got it and hasn't been outside yet. It's in the same condition as when i got it so it shouldn't be a problem. Again, thanks for all the feed back guys.

If you have a straightedge ruler, and feel like posting a photo, please do so.

Sucks that it isn't straight and true. Keep us posted.

I'd not worry that much....but that's me. Depends on how significant the bend is, but I've got more than one VERY serviceable Becker that isn't entirely flat from hilt to tip. Even some higher end kitchen knives. Does it cut? Is the "ever so slightly" bow impede the usefulness of the knife? My 5 has a "wave" in the spine that is very noticeable.....but prevents it from doing its job it does not. My 2¢, YMMV.

Hey DrGonzo! Finally another fella in my neck of the woods hehe.
The design of the Becker handle itself makes it secure in the hand. What might at first seem to be a slippery texture is the main thing that fights against hot spots and blisters.
In other words...the "slick" texture prevents the skin from grabbing and feeling abrasive, then the curvature of the handle design provides an ideal grip so no slip.

Try it out...you'll get it.

Just got a 4 and a 5 myself over the holidays. I like the 5, it's a really good slicing tool. I've got the 4 for if I anticipate any real chopping, but for light brush duty or de-limbing, the 5 is great. It's a very passable chef's knife, as well. And it's similar enough in style to a Searles Bowie that I'd not hesitate to carry it as a defensive tool. It's light, it's fast, and it just plain works. Jerry Fisk isn't a Master Bladesmith for nothing, he knows a thing or two about what works.

Depends on which tasks you're most likely working on.

The BK5 is soon to be rare/exclusive
And gives +1 agility and a slicing bonus with a critical hit.

The 7 gives +1 dexterity, +2% chance to crit when stabbing and 3% damage bonus, adds +1 to chopping and bushcraft skills

BK9 has +3 strength, +1 dexterity and agility bonus with small tasks, +5% chance for a critical hit and +10% damage bonus if you crit when chopping.

Right now you can get them all from NPCs or vendors, soon the 5 will only be able to be traded from other players

Dude, I almost sprayed my pop out my nose!

+1 vote for the 4, 5, 9, and 21!

That's about the best advice I've seen on a "which one?" thread, and is very similar to what's I'd say.
Go for the closeouts first because 1. They're cheaper (true of most quality knives), 2. They'll be gone soon, and 3. If you want the others (and don't kid yourself, you will!) they're not going anywhere anytime soon (knock on wood!).

Just got my bk4 and bk5 i thought the 4 would sweep me of my feet but i have to admit as much as i like the 4 the bk5 has a feel like no other in my hand.
