Can't do it.

Dont remember "catching attitude".

Perhaps not, however, from an outsider who has re-read this entire thread, I'll repeat that you've gotten some solid advice from folks with many more years of experience than me (5+ years in blacksmithing, 44+years of living) and you haven't thanked anyone for taking their time to give you solid advice, not to mention the offer of free steel or heat treating, you've only complained about their attempts to redirect you to a solid path.

Respect, humility and gratitude will take you much further much faster.
Good luck.

James,
Your enthusiasm is what would be expected of a 14 year old. I think the problem is that you seem to be in a huge rush.

Late Wednesday night you posted:
Basically from advice given it's like impossible for me a 14 year old to get into knife making . I have decided to go with a traditional knife I can do consisting of flint knapping blade deer antler handle with sinew. Is this a waste though do these sell and I can do them good
By Friday afternoon you had built a forge and were annealing a blade. By Saturday you were done and had ordered equipment. There are a lot of good makers here who can't make a blade ( much less a forge) in basically two days.

In fifty hours you went from "I can't do it." to "I don't need any advice or help."

If you think we are all being mean and not trying to help. I would ask you to sit down at the computer with your dad and mom and read every post of the five pages with them. I think they will have a very different opinion of the help offered to you.

You had offers of expert help, expert advice, materials and HT, personal coaching by a very respected member of the knife making community, etc.. Right now, you appear to be on your own. I wish you well, and hope you learn to slow down, read and study, and continue to make knives. Just be safe and careful.

I'll add my two cents here.....

First off - Bladeforums does NOT delete ANY old post, so what you post here stays, unless you go back and delete every post.
But if someone has already quoted that post - well to late, it's here to stay for ever.

And second I do NOT make knives, but a very good friend of mine does. I've watched him make knives for ten years.
One day he told me the secret to making good knives.......:confused:

Would you like to know what it is?

It's time!

Good luck, I wish you all the best in what ever you decide to do.
We were all young once.:)

Virtually anyone can learn to make a knife with enough time and practice.

It's just like anything else; you have to start somewhere and grow from there.
