Can't think of a clever SNARK thread title, Snark thread.

Hey Woody, how do the minis you're making fly/stick?
.

Great question!

When designing them i used thicker stock than i originally planned. I was originally going to use 1/8" stock to keep them light and easier to carry..... and then decided to go with .156" to get more weight for more momentum and force... Then i added the center handle cutout as i was trying to keep as much weight in the head as possible, and I made the bevels a bit larger than i originally drew up with the idea it would get better penetration just for this reason....

That being said they are still small and not very heavy.... And they have not came back from heat treat yet so i havent tested it out being thrown.. But i WILL for sure!!

But i also havent been advertising them as throwers, even though ill definitely throw mine... But they are being heat treated to 60HRC and im worried people will be upset if i advertise them as throwers and someone throws one and it hits concrete or something and chips the edge all to hell. Which is possible with all throwing knives and hawks anyway... I just didnt want people thinking they are made for that and blaming the steel or HT when they miss or it doesnt stick and chips on concrete etc.

Got some Christmas shopping done today. While wrapping gifts I noticed my son who is 5 moths old today bouncing along to the beat of every song I've streamed on youtube...even better... cause this is what I'm streaming :D

With it being 60 I wouldn't throw it. If it was at 52-55 I'd throw that around no problem.

We have a stop in Clarksville, TN (that stocks Black & Tan) on the way to Nashville. They know me now and go get a case out of the back when I walk in. There are also four or five enormous military surplus stores and a US Cavalry at the same Ft. Campbell exit.

I look forward to visiting the mother in law. :D:D:D

hmmm... my next trip to Ethan's may take a bit longer.....
and a buddy of mine who moved to Topeka from Ga absolutely loves the porter, so I may be stopping at exit 4, as well...

Why is "Friend" in quotes Jerry ?...lol
he spent the last gathering being called "Jerry's friend" instead of Evan and you could tell it was wearing on him by the end of the first day. :D

On a completely unrelated note, has anyone used a .17 for a varmint gun? I'm thinking about picking up a coyote gun, but haven't really decided on a caliber or gun. Pretty sure I want a bolt gun, though.

For varmints a 17 would be fine, but even a centerfire 17 is marginal for coyotes. Coyotes are pretty tough animals. Something 22 caliber would be much better. 223 would be more effective and cheaper to shoot.

After I started using it I was pulled aside and told that I wasn't helping things.

Yea, see it was kind of a catch 22 for me. I wanted them hard enough that the edges in the hex cutouts didnt round out when using them with the screwdriver bit or a bolt and wanted the edge retention of a higher hardness as most people will only be using them to cut...... yet i still want to throw mine. The swamp rat KDSH is rated at 58-60 and i have thrown one of them hundreds of times with no issues... But with these being a full on 60 i worry a miss could result in a chipped edge. Now if mine chips i wont care... But if a customers chips out the first few times he throws it id feel bad about that... Hence the reason i dont say they are for throwing!!

But believe you me ill be throwing mine :D

Thanks man!! I was trying to think up SOMETHING to make it/me seem more professional than it/I really am. LOL

Nice throwing of them hawks brother!!!

WHAT do you mean im going to miss them yuenglings??? A while ago my father asked me which beer i drink and i told him and he said my step brother, who lives down in Florida, drinks yuengling. Damn. Now i have to find out if Black and tans can be had down there.... I will indeed miss them if not.

The brewery distributes its beers to Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Washington DC and will begin shipping to Massachusetts in 2014. Soon, all of this will be yours, Yuengling! (Not the curtains.)

Doesnt say black and tans specifically though. Must find out!!!

Thanks bud!!

No worries Wood, there's Yuengling all over the place. Hell, even a brewery in Tampa. And Black & Tan is all over Wallfart.
When I was able to drink more than one or two, I bought 12 pack bottles. Great stuff.
