Canvas vs. G10

G10 is impervious to fluids, so would be better for some uses(skinning comes to mind). That being said, my personal preference is canvas micarta.

Has anybody seen any affect by fluids on black paper micarta I'm use?
I have used it on a few knives and have not seen any sign of fluid damage. To be honest I have never soaked the handles in fluid for any length of time but I do wipe them down with oil and that doesn't have any bad effects.

Fluids will NOT damage either Micarta or G10-A stain on Canvas can easily be removed with Soap and Water-Canvas, G10, or Paper Micarta will outlast the Knife, get the one you like the best and forget about it

Cool. I didn't think it would. So far seems less absorbant than canvas I've used.

Like Andy, I prefer G10 overall. I don't mind canvas, but for me, G10 is grippier. I think if you have a strong grip, G10 stays put better, even when slick with blood.

I do wish Busse would start offering some more canvas micarta colors (I'd LOVE to see green!!!), or even some canvas combo colors (like the Tigerhide).

I was just checking out some of the pics of the tiger canvas handles....they look awesome! I really hope that comes back out at some point!

I am a fan of G10 on smaller blades and canvas on larger, even though I have both on order for BGTG. I just got my AMS back from the custom shop for warranty work. It had tan canvas and it cracked in the thin part beside one of the tube fasteners. I had it replaced with black G10, love it so far. Good to have it back!

As cool as G10 looks, crisp and sexy...canvas always wins in my book.
A while back, there were folks asking how to maintain, seal, or improve the canvas slabs. Some were using WD-40, Lindseed oil, or other things to treat their canvas grips. The canvas needs no maintenance other than an occasional bath in soap. The rope and raptor scale canvas grips are the best grip Busse has produced, they are just not as "pretty" and as needlessly aggressive on bare hands as the G10.

Take some pride and bring back the fuzz, wash your canvas scales!:-p

Alright Andy...you work the street corner then come home and take showers with your blades?!?! Man where does it end???:p

Snort. Chuckle. Sure thing :)

Heh. :p But I do think, based on my personal experience, when gripped tightly G10 stays put better (like when chopping). Having a smoother surface finish, I think it "sticks" to skin and leather better under a lot of pressure. Does that mean canvas micarta is for wimps? :foot: That's not what I said... ;)

I think if there were any issues with any of their handle materials, they wouldn't use it period.

I hope a big blade comes out for this weeks offering ....I have a few big choppers in canvas would love to compare the two...if one comes out I think I'll be forced to order it in a G10 but only cuz I have too:D hahaha

Seeing as G10 is heavier than canvas micarta which material do you think the knife's balance point is designed for? I would think its whatever material the prototype was made out of so it would make sense to get the handle material in the prototype picture as that knife would have a balance point that the designer intended.
