Canvas vs. G10

Seeing as G10 is heavier than canvas micarta which material do you think the knife's balance point is designed for? I would think its whatever material the prototype was made out of so it would make sense to get the handle material in the prototype picture as that knife would have a balance point that the designer intended.
Id like to know more about it as well.

Ive had plenty of G10 in other models, as most prolly have too. And I really like it. Excellent handle material imo.
But, for the big Busse's, especially the users - and just my 2 pennies, I really prefer the Canvas Micarta.
However, I would love to see some Linen Micarta too....

I prefer canvas micarta to g10 but i prefer linen to canvas. G10 is great on folders but i don't like it on fixed blades for the most part. Linen micarta is by far one of my favorite handle materials.

Yes. I agree.
When I said other models, I meant folders.
We're on the same page. Ill try and get a shot of my Spyderco Temperance 2 for a linen micarta pic for folks to see. It really does feel great in the hand like you say.

I like the g10 on my RMD LE and Rodent Trail, but generally agree with MacLaren and VashHash. I have a lot of G10 folders and have gone for canvas on all of my Op2Wks orders, except the BB13's of course :)

Linen micarta would be hard to resist...

I was a micarta fan. But lately, after feeling and seeing my first G10 on a Busse (BGTG), I've gone full G10. On everything where I can afford it, either through a special offering, or just standard but cheap enough.

Interesting, as I am a micarta fan myself, but have not held Busse's G10. May I ask what you liked about it?

It's primarily aesthetic, as opposed to ergonomic.
However, I find that with the patterns machined into the G10 that it feels as secure in had as the micarta does. I cannot vouch for how it feels while chopping, though, as I haven't yet done any chopping with the BGTG. Plus, I know that the G10 absorbs no fluids or such.

I don't shy away from micarta, if it is remarkably cheaper than a G10 option on a given offering. And I won't avoid a knife on the exchange simply because it has micarta rather than G10. But all other things being equal, I'll take G10. In looks, it is preferable to me. And in feel, it is equal... but different.

Depends on the color... I will never walk away from Tigerhide, Snakeskin or Green micarta, but I also love Jungle storm, Sandstorm and OD G-10!

Guys........Ive been wanting to ask for soemtime,....what is Tigerhide and Snakeskin for the matter?
Thanx fellas.

Its a wonderful mixture of colors in a Canvas Micarta.

This is Tigerhide:

I don't have any Snakeskin unfortunately. :(

There is a lot you can do with G10, and I do like it as a handle material, but the amount of variety you can get with micarta is just crazy. There is some amazing custom micarta at Shade Tree

Doubt they are big enough to supply Busse for regular production, but a guy can dream right? There is another shop I found a while ago that had some really impressive multicolor stuff, but I can't remember their name at the moment. Hopefully I can dig it up. (*Edit*, found the page. This stuff may not even be available anymore, but it's good inspiration.)

For now I'm plenty happy with the standard canvas micarta and looking forward to checking out the green and maroon, but could still see myself going for some custom scales on my favorites down the line.
