Care and feeding of peanuts.

I love carrying my 'nut but its CV, and even with a thick, dark patina, it still rusts in my pocket:( my sweat must be deadly haha. I am going to pick up a SS one soon!
I know you have probably heard this.. but put mineral oil on those cv blades. Seriously, I was forcing a patina on mine with vinegar and there was a just an itty bitty bit of oil still on the blade. So when I took my knife out of the vinegar a lot later, everything had a patina except for the little patchets of where the oil was, which remained mirror polished.

I have 4 Peanuts, but none in CV. I'm looking to remedy that, if I can find the right one at the right price.

I gave my new yellow comfort craft Buck 309 a shot at some pocket time today, I'm trying to like it but it just doesn't hold a candle to my yellow CV peanut.

Thanks guys. I just ordered a Case dark red CV. ;) Need to expand my horizons. Which could get expensive.

I inadvertently left my Case yellow CV Peanut at home when I came back over here to Iraq this time...and I really miss it! I do have my amber bone Case Medium Stockman, and it's a great knife, but it's just not the same! I started carrying and using that little guy around the ranch when I was home last time, and I truly started appreciating it! Can't wait to get home next month and put that "yeller" peanut back in my pocket and back to use!

Yeah, it's a funny thing how something so small can be so a part of your stuff.

On the other hand, I still miss my 1966 VW bug.

Carl.

Despite the fact I love my little yella Peanut, it gets kicked out of my pocket by my yellow mini Trapper quite often:confused:
It just fits my hand a bit better and it's not that much more bulkier. Besides that it feels much more solid and like a "real" knife.
Maybe I'm just not mature enough yet at 45:o

here here!
of course, i dont have a peanut, but i did pick up a buck 309 during the peanut mania to see what the fuss was all about.
but, my case yellow mini-trapper is just about perfect, and has displaced everything out of my pockets...

The blades are pretty close in lengths, but the extra handles fit my extra large hands much better :P
and at 3 1/2" i dont really consider the mini-trapper to be a big knife either

Well, I have my Peanut in my pocket as I type this. It's resting up from the strenuous Saturday night duty of cutting a fresh juicy lime for my beer.

I gotta say this is a good looking little knife. I had read somewhere some folks criticizing the dark red bone as being too bright or too red or some such, but it suits me fine. When looking at the spine, the combination of red bone, brass, and nickel silver is striking.

Here's mine, sporting a small blade mod I gave it.

after ive got a few other traditionals, even worked on two blades bevels, still, after having carried them now and then, i always compare the peanut with those, and it wins, every time, both in ease of carry, and in slicing power.
so far, i can say the peanut is my favorite of what i have, and if i carry something else, traditional still, i miss my small serpentine friend, and that thin blade which cuts like a razor.
every time i find reasons why i should have carried the peanut, like either that the knife i have is too big, and i don't need that much in my pocket, or the blade is too thick and doesn't slice so well...and whatever i cut, be it an apple, wooden stick or just some package, i know that the peanut could have done that, and do it better.
so yes, the peanut is back in my pocket, and i like it even more than before.

I posted this elsewhere, but it really belongs here.

Redbone cv. Cause you guys have never seen one before.

For any of you guys that really dig the shape and feel of the nut but would prefer something just a little bit bigger in your hand check out tueh GEC #56 dogleg jack.

To the skeptics, I have used peanuts for tasks as small as cutting a loose thread to field dressing mule deer and whitetail deer. I have pulled it out when caping a bear for a rug when the bigger knives got dull or for the finer work around the knuckles. I will say the bear grease makes things interesting but thats the case with most knives when dealing with a bear. I have to say the nut is hard to beat. I think I need a new one to add to the rotation of away from work knives.
I know my wife won't see the need but I will fi d a way to justify it.

Chris

.... and now I must buy a peanut

And now I have one.... Certainly a beautiful little thing. I'll see if I can get a pic up sometime today but mine is a case chestnut smooth bone.

(Edit) actually I had a second one from RR but I have passed that one on to a little girl (with parental ok) at the church who wants to learn to whittle.

Good morning and I certainly will check it out. :D

Someone mentioned the Case Mini Trapper, but I'm not of fan of the spey blade. It has it's purposes like any other blade, but I don't like the way it looks.
I apologize if I'm being superficial. :p
