Care and feeding of peanuts.

And now I have one.... Certainly a beautiful little thing. I'll see if I can get a pic up sometime today but mine is a case chestnut smooth bone.

(Edit) actually I had a second one from RR but I have passed that one on to a little girl (with parental ok) at the church who wants to learn to whittle.

What kept ya? We've been waiting and saving a place for you in The Cult.

Good Morning PeaNuts

here is a comparison photo of a Peanut and a 3.5" GEC. I don't have a Dogleg Jack, but it is also 3.5". A peanut is 2.9". My 3.5" GEC with 2 blades weighs 72 grams, more than double the weight of my Peanut, which weighs 33 grams.

The Dogleg Jack is a nice knife in its own right, if you're ok with the curve going the opposite way of a peanut. Get both, but don't miss getting a Peanut and don't be misled into thinking the Dogleg, or a Mini Trapper, or a Small Texas Jack, or any other 3.5" knife is a replacement for a 2.9" Peanut.

fwiw, 3.5" knives have 2.5" main blades. Peanuts are not only half an inch shorter in the handle, they are also half an inch shorter in main blade length. If you want to consider an alternative to a Peanut that is close to the same size, the contenders are the Tiny Trapper and the Pemberton, but again, you should still get a Peanut, nothing else IS a Peanut.

Someone mentioned the Case Mini Trapper, but I'm not of fan of the spey blade. It has it's purposes like any other blade, but I don't like the way it looks.
I apologize if I'm being superficial. :p

They make a Wharncliffe Mini Trapper that has the clip blade but with a wharncliffe instead of the spey.

Great knife. It is a lot bigger and heavier than a Peanut though so I don't think they are even comparable.

I have a few 'Nuts in CV, SS and Damascus and I have to say the Damascus is pretty great. It seems like it has thicker blades and they also seem more rigid. More noticeable swedges on the pen blade too. My wife bought the Damascus one for me from a place that had 8 in stock. She called and asked the guy to go through them and pick out the best looking one with the best fit and finish. Needless to say, I got a great one (wife and Peanut)!! :)

^^^ I love those smooth chestnut covers. ^^^

Here is my beloved Nut. She has not bit me yet, but I am sure that is only because I had been forewarned by Grand High Muckba.

Nice yellow nut. I was thinking about dying my amber bone ss nut with yellow Rit dye.

Thanks, I always thought with RIT dye you have to go to a darker shade to get it to work, but I could be recalling incorrectly.

You could make it work if you bleached out the other color first, but generally it has to be to darker. I did this last week- a chestnut peanut became deep red.
