"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

This thread is really tugging at my childhood memory strings :) Love me some Rocky and Bullwinkle.

GT, I think if we all step back and look at our involvement here, we'll realize that we're all a little quirky. Your love for academia, numerically and linguistically, I think, perfectly exemplifies our collective quirkiness. If we were a sports team, you would be the "Glue Guy". Not necessarily the most prominent in post count or other hard-line stats, but your "immeasurables" set you at the top of the heap. I always love seeing your avatar pop up, and I know I'm not alone. Thank you.
...
I love our little world and the magnificent people and stereotypes that create it.
Thanks for your thoughtful comments, Shawn. (I think ... ;))
And I'm right with you in appreciating the diversity of folks who hang out on The Porch!:cool:

Anybody like Top Cat? :)

I don’t remember Top Cat, but I was a fan of Underdog. ;)

Really Greg? You must be too young my friend :)

When I was a kid, there were only two British TV channels, and since Top Cat was shown on the non-commercial BBC, they insisted on changing the name, so that they didn't plug a cat food of the same name. Rather annoyingly, and to the confusion of kids around the country, it was listed as "Boss Cat", even though everyone called it Top Cat! o_O

Well, it took longer than I had hoped to get my new knife display set up at the farm store (after the distributor lost my first order), but I finally got it up and running today. I sold the first knife before I was even halfway finished! Here’s a couple pics of the current selection (with prices removed, of course). A few of these were left over from previous orders, and I won’t be reordering them once we sell out. I don’t know why anyone ever thought a farm store needed to sell an assisted open serrated stiletto. Hope y’all enjoy!

P.S. - The back side of the top panel is posted with a full page memo, complete with color photos, to show other employees how to display knives without having two blades partially open on the same spring. :D

What are them funny-looking things in the second picture that almost look like knives? ;)

I was a bit too old and ahem grown up for tv cartoons by the time this guy came along...although I could entertain you for hours remembering the voices ,characters and stories from everything mentioned so far....too bad I can't remember what they taught me in school...cartoons were our life!
Skeleton is perhaps the most evil villain like evvah... but this exit ....love it

I found myself posting this in EDC.

Extra hot summer, extra cold fall, and now extra early winter. Enough to shovel isn't supposed to happen till Thanksgiving. Not enough for the snowblower, though, just to add insult to injury.
Yesterday I did one last mulch of the leaves, pulled the snowblower out of the shed and put the mower in, and started the snowblower, which still works, and filled up the gas can. When it gets above freezing I'll clear the eavestroughes. PLenty of time to do a Barbara Damrosch on the foundation shrubbery. I might get out my long Legitimus for that (I just found it and don't think I've lost it again yet.)

And speaking of long blades, I also planted the reflectors so I can find my driveway and the pass-through in my incipient rose-of-sharon hedge.

I have lost my 100-ft 12-ga bright yellow extension cord. I hope I'll find it when the leaf bags go out on the kerb.

I can tear down the deck in the winter, which might be better anyway, as the bears will be hibernating.

I feel your pain, Jer! :( I judge the quality of each year by shoveling: if I don't have to shovel before Thanksgiving, it's a great year!:cool::thumbsup: Unfortunately, 2018 went in the books as a bummer this morning, since I just came in from 45 minutes of shoveling (and still have some of the driveway left to do, but I'm NOT waiting until 9am to have breakfast, snowfall (and leaf fall - man, a lot of leaves came down last night after I had things pretty much under control after work Thursday) be danged). Fortunately, June is just around the corner!
