"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Kevin I think most everyone here at sometime discovered BF by researching something with knives. Some may have ended up here from recommendations from members I know I have told a lot of my buddy's about this place but again I believe most of us got here by looking up knife related information. I also think at least a lot of us had our knife collecting really kick started when we found this place. When I did get here I pretty much stayed in the General Knife Discussion forum and at that time everyone was praising the Spyderco PM2 and the Benchmade Griptillian. Well not wanting to be left out I ordered one each. When I received them I posted pictures so I could be a part of the "club" but truth is neither one of them really flipped my switch. I kept buying modern folders but it was my Uncle Henry that still rode in my pocket all the time. Finally I ventured over to the porch and started seeing all of those beautiful traditional knife pictures folks were posting and quickly discovered the place I fit in. I discovered GEC and bought a 15 boy's knife and was addicted. I remember my first post here in Carl's Lounge I asked if it was alright to post and Jack Black Jack Black gave me a huge welcome and here I am almost four years later still posting in the lounge.
I would really like to hear other stories of how these wonderful people found their way to the porch.
Same here Randy. My knife of choice for as long as I can remember was a SAK of some sort. Someone gave me a Spyderco Q and I found BF while looking for info. At that time I didn't see the point of spending up to a $100 on a GEC. Well, we all know how that turned out. $100 for a knife today. I'd call that a bargain.

Back then I stared at a square bolster 61 in ivory for six months that was selling for $100. Never pulled the trigger, I wonder where it is?
I bought the last one after looking at it for days.

It has a remnant of the "bark" lines that looks like a crack. :) Not exactly at a pin, but near the edge. Charlie posted about how the knife and the handle material came to be, I'll see if I can find it. If memory serves there was only a small handful made (4?) Small world, eh?

Only 4 years Randy!!!?
names not even dry in the ships log.
shore leave is cancelled...swab the rum keg, man the pumps and run out the wooden legs....

the breeze of laughter
fills the sails
sometimes flat
sometimes a gale.
The seas are rough and sometimes blue
in all weather
we are the crew.

I just needed to check in here - I was in the hospital most of last week with acute pancreatitis, and I just came back because I'm still in severe pain. I think I got discharged too soon. Meditations, prayers, thoughts, please. This is some of the least fun a human can have.
I sure hope you'll get relief from your pain soon, traumkommode traumkommode . To have health concerns is no fun at any time, but around the holidays seems even worse. :( I'll certainly add you to my prayer list!
