We bring balance to the ForceNo worries my friend. Between the two of us, we got it covered.![]()
So celluloid off-gassing brought you to "The Porch" Randy, it was a blessing in disguise.Jeff I agree some of them are beautiful and those three you posted are very fine looking knives.
Before I got serious about collecting knives I had an accumulation of around 60 knives mostly junk. I kept them in an old cigar box just piled in there and rarely even looked at them. I had a Buck 110 and a Schrade Uncle Henry stockman I used daily. I carried the 110 in a belt sheath and the stockman in my pocket those two were the only ones that ever got cleaned oiled and sharpened. About the only time the cigar box came out was in a conversation about knives or if I happened to get another knife.
I bought a $10 gas station knife from the Exon station and when I opened the box to store the new knife I found one of the knives in my knife terminology at that time had "rotted" and it had spread and and took out a couple more. I got online and started trying to find out what happened and came across a site that was really cool called Blade Forums. I'm not sure if that was the first time I had came across BF but it was when I started lurking around. I kept finding myself spending more and more time here for a couple of years then finally joined. Now I'm broke but I have a bunch of really nice knives, a lot of new friends and a ton more of knife knowledge.
As far as celluloid handles they just freak me out.![]()
So celluloid off-gassing brought you to "The Porch" Randy, it was a blessing in disguise.I happened upon BF the same way, I was Googling for information why my Parker Frost "Johnny Muskrat" knife had Schrade stamped on the pile side tangs. I found out from Codger's posts and Bernie's thread that this was a Pandora's box topic. I was soon hooked on knife history and a BF member

I had just got into pocket knives through another gear-related forum, and was interested in Kershaw knives at the time. There was a good and active Kershaw manufacturer sub-forum here where I initially landed. I eventually looked at the Traditional forum and thought it was all about people who collected the "old-timey" knives - meaning expensive, no-longer-produced collectibles.I would really like to hear other stories of how these wonderful people found their way to the porch.
I remember my first post here in Carl's Lounge I asked if it was alright to post andJack Black gave me a huge welcome and here I am almost four years later still posting in the lounge.
Kevin I think most everyone here at sometime discovered BF by researching something with knives. Some may have ended up here from recommendations from members I know I have told a lot of my buddy's about this place but again I believe most of us got here by looking up knife related information. I also think at least a lot of us had our knife collecting really kick started when we found this place. When I did get here I pretty much stayed in the General Knife Discussion forum and at that time everyone was praising the Spyderco PM2 and the Benchmade Griptillian. Well not wanting to be left out I ordered one each. When I received them I posted pictures so I could be a part of the "club" but truth is neither one of them really flipped my switch. I kept buying modern folders but it was my Uncle Henry that still rode in my pocket all the time. Finally I ventured over to the porch and started seeing all of those beautiful traditional knife pictures folks were posting and quickly discovered the place I fit in. I discovered GEC and bought a 15 boy's knife and was addicted. I remember my first post here in Carl's Lounge I asked if it was alright to post andJack Black gave me a huge welcome and here I am almost four years later still posting in the lounge.

I was looking for sodbusters and the history thereof when Trevytrev's "sodbusters and lots of em" thread popped up. Been here ever since.![]()
Thank you very much Sir .While I certainly enjoy my GEC knives, the following is far more important and one of the best things I've read in years.
I had bought a few GEC knives from Bob Andrews (he was the only online dealer I was aware of at the time) and in the summer of 2015 I sent him an email asking about any kind of site (he knew of) where I could see pictures and maybe read some reviews?
Bob (RIP) sent me the links to the "GEC Blog" page & the Blade Forum "Traditional Folders" page.
BTW @Old Engineer Mrs. Oro and I just celebrated #35and are certainly looking forward to the next 20.
Harry,
I not only enjoy your posts, but also appreciate your humor and wisdom.
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year & Best of Health (to you & yours).
Best Regards & Happy Cutting,
