"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I've had dogs all my life and after my last one passed I saw this guy and had to have him. He's the alpha cat and thinks he's human. The long haired one is the girl and she's super chill and the sweetest, the laziest one too. Cats definitely have a mind of their own.

Some good looking four legged companions, guys! No doubt these are some very fortunate animals (and vice versa).:cool:

Some awesome looking dogs and cats guys.

Here are the four in my life. This picture was taken in November 2009.

From the left. Phaedra was a rescue. She is a lab/golden mix. The squatting guy came out of a gutter somewhere. Jonah is a black lab mix weighs about 120; the biggest strongest of the crew. He also was a rescue dog with a great story. I got him out of one of the Bastidville pounds when they had an outbreak of parvo. They were going to put him down. My vet of 30 years gave him at 20% chance of survival at 8 weeks. He made it after 30 days of treatment. After the 3rd day the vet told me chances were that he would make it.

Next is Sam. This dog had been badly abused and it took a ton of patience and effort to bring him around. He was a project and still is, although has evolved into an awesome dog. You can tell he does not miss too many meals. :D.

Next critter came from heaven as far as I am concerned. :)

Last but not least is Max the Shepherd. I can not visualize a life without dogs.

That's an awesome family portrait, Gus. Can't help but smile when looking at that one.:thumbup::thumbup::cool:

Needs pics of the knife I carried that day.

I own a couple of shops that wash and groom dogs and love the business.
One thing I needed was a blunt knife to use around the critters, so do not blame Ken Coats for the ugly blade on this beautiful knife. I carry it all the time when I am in the shops and has come in handy on several occasions. I can use it around my most active clients. :D. It has cut away a few collars and heavy hair matts and is very well made. As usual Ken's bone is off the charts stunning.

Nice knife Gus!

This is one of my dogs, Shadow. He's part Australian cattle dog and something else. The animal shelter where we got him called him "Two Face" but we decided on Shadow. Good dog but the previous owners must have beat him because he gets really nervous when you lift your arm suddenly.

Luciano, that's an awesome portrait. (Reminds me of a Native American image...)

(Too bad about the dog's past but glad you're making his present and future better. ::cool:)

Shadow is a great name. (Even if he does remind me of Crazy Horse!;) )

I agree... I can feel my B.P go up when I read or hear about animals being abused. Its a good thing there are folks willing to take the time, and put out the expense and effort to give them a second chance in life.

The rewards far outweigh any expense or inconvenience.

You can tell Max is a proud dog :D

Gus, I commend you for your devotion to dogs.My two dogs are rescues from the pound.
My border collie/husky Sara was from a few towns over and my lastest Sophie, who I got for my daughter, was a rescue from Tennessee. It's a Jack russell and I think she has chihuahua in her.

Yeah yeah yeah, I wish you could read our minds when that picture was taken.
These 4 knuckleheads have known each other from day one. It was a friggin' miracle we got them still long enough to get the shot. ;)

We were almost at wits end when we finally got them all so sit still and not be goofing around. :D. Knuckleheads I tell ya.;)

Not to mention we need a 12 gal shopvac just to get all the hairball tumbleweeds rolling around in the house.

Luciano and navihawk, those are some pretty happy and handsome looking pups!

Kinda hard to see but here are my mutts. Minnie (Left) is a Dutch Shepherd and Pearl (Right) is a Labrador.

Here is the newest puppy though. He's a ham.

Blues,

I would have to say he is Mandan by the paint up.

She wasn't fished out from under a trailer home was she? My uncle has a dog that could well be her littermate (looks wise) that he rescued from TN, the whole litter was under the trailer and the owner could have cared less. His dog is sweet as molasses.

I don't have the pictures uploaded yet, but we took our rescued beagle out for a hike today. She normally isn't a water dog, but took a 3 foot leap off the trail and into a pool in the creek today without hesitation to beat the heat. I was cracking up. She looked like a cliff diver!

She well could have been. my daughter picked her out from petfinder, from a shelter called dixies pet underground. She has quite a unique personality and she is the sweetest thing too. I'm obedience training her and she also is copying my older dog. It makes training a bit easier. She's around 6 months old now. Do you have any pictures?

Jackknife:

Remington has reissued the Scout Knife they first produced in1923. Links to sellers are forbidden, so I can’t point you at a picture. But Google Remington Boy Scout Knife and you’ll find it.

Is that what Mr. Van’s Scout Knife looked like?

That's it. Thanks.

There's an original from the '30s for sale. It has a circular rather than an acorn shield. And the blades are carbon steel rather than stainless. Otherwise the reproduction looks to be a close match.

Yeeeeah, I've seen the remakes. It's like the original in form, same layout. But those old Remingtons were something else. It seemed to me the brass liners were thicker, the jigged bone scales more vivid, generaly better finished. Its sort of like looking at a Smith and Wesson K22 from the 70's, and then looking at one from the late 40's or 50's. The older one had metal finishing in a different and higher plane than the later stuff. You can see the difference when you have it in hand.
