"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Ah, you have a Ruby too! Ours is a chocolate (officially. But like most of her breed, she's lightened up to more of a latte now) labradoodle & loves water. What's yours?

"Did somebody just say something about dinner?"

Certainly........ but first you have to eat a massive Swedish cracker with Marmite:D

Thanks, Mike! I looked at the smaller size my image hosting site made available and it just didn't capture the right feel so I felt like I just had to go with the original this time around. I know you understand...
...After all, he is my best friend!!!:thumbup:

Since Elliott brought up the idea to make things a little more personal here in Traditional, I thought this would be a great time to mention this.

A couple weeks ago, after I posted about a co-worker committing suicide, Steven (Alfaholic) sent me a message that he would try and call me soon.
The first time I missed him. Forgot to take my phone with me when I ran to town.
The second time I missed him, and for some reason I didn't get the voicemail for a couple days.
Then the third time we had success. I think we talked for close to an hour (according to the wife) :D.
Probably would have talked a lot longer, but unfortunately I had to get ready to go to work :(

It was great to talk to him. It really is better than communicating on the computer.

If you get the chance, call another member and talk on the phone.

I type kinda slow, and didn't see your reply before I submitted my other one

Absolutely I understand. Our dogs are more than just pets, they are family :D

Mike, I'm sorry to read about your loss. I was unaware of it. My sincere condolences.

My wife and I had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with Steven at the Blade Show. A nicer man would be hard to find. I'll look forward to seeing and spending more time with him at next year's show.
Mike I'd be honored to do the same with you if the opportunity ever arises.:cool:

Thanks for the condolences, I appreciate it. It was quite a shock, but then again it always is. Rick was my forth friend to do this, and I had an Uncle that did it about 14 years ago. O.K enough depressing stuff :D

Steven told me he had a great time, spending time with you and your wife, and Gus at Blade, and said he too is looking forward to next year.

I would be honored as well to meet you. Hopefully in a couple years I'll have all my ducks in a row and be able to make the trip. If'n the ducks cooperate, maybe next year, but I'm not holding my breath :D

Both our dogs are mixed breeds, both came from the animal shelter down the road here.
Copper is a Rhodesian ridgeback/lab/shepherd mix. When Copper bites down on whatever he retrieves in the water, his tail slaps the surface one side, then the other, every time & reminds me of a thrasher shark.Copper won't retrieve squat on land  Ruby is new to us,she's about 7 mos. old. They said she was a lab/ mastiff mix,I think more a pit bull/beagle

She made a good run out ,following Copper, yesterday ,fetching a float toy.She swam out,got tired fast, turned around just short of Copper on the retrieve. Then it seemed as if she was overwhelmed with the water/swimming & shyed away for the rest of the time we were down there.I had to force her in to get her to go back in.
I hope she will want back in the water, the next time we try her.

This was taken over July 4th weekend

Ahhh---dogs and knives, and good people to talk to about both---It doesn't get any better.
My thanks to the mods for the work they do to keep us on track, and keep it respectful on here. I really enjoy the BladeForums. Everyone have a fantastic weekend.

Thanks, Vince. They're all beautiful. It's hard not to love just about any dog.

I like the attitudes presented on your two in the image. It's like "okay, we sat through this for you, so can we go eat and play now?" :p

It's really the members that do most all of that...Gus and I are just on "clean-up on aisle 5!" duty. ;)

It would really be fantastic if you could make it in the next few years Mike. It was really great to talk to you. As I so often say, knife people are some of the best out there.........

Gorgeous dogs Vince & Elliott. :)
+1.......Elliot Smoky has amazing coloring. You can just imagine him in a Bavarian forest at dawn with the mist all around......he would be invisible........:)

Vince your two big puppies look like the luckiest rescue dogs on the planet:D

Thanks, Steven, we'll be looking forward to it!...

...oh, and by the way, Smoky (our gray ghost) is a "rescue" as well. He'll have been with us five years come this December.
(You're spot-on regarding his powers of invisibility.)

As long as we are sharing family pics, here's two out of three kids of ours.
Yes, we are cat people. Not the uptight, hissy, stuck-up cats that you remember your great aunt having. The one that would scratch you just a well as look at you.
No, we have cool cats. Here's Scout, chillaxin' in his favorite chair. Scout will fetch a rubber ball all day long, like any Labrador. I may rent him out to duck hunters this fall. He rocks.

Here's Dempsey watching his favorite show, "Meercat Manor". He will sit there for as long as that show is on, and only that one. He weighs in at 20 lbs. and has a head like a softball. Its the only cat I've ever heard walk down the hallway.

I can't get them to enjoy whiskey yet but when I do I will have engineered the best cats in world.

^^Beautiful animals, guys!

I've had cats my whole life and they still never cease to amaze me with their peculiarities. Dinsdale here is no exception; this little bundle of evil not only fetches, but he'll bring me a toy and drop it (sometimes soaking wet and right on my keyboard or reading material...) for me to throw. He also will carry a toy to a favorite spot (often jumping onto a table or counter with it in his teeth) before dropping and shredding it.
