"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

No traditional maker, except Opi, even "Laguiole" is the b...s..t made in Pakistan.
I think this was commissioned by a multi-tool maker, Gerber or Leatherman (or a newcomer), other questions being over key chain tools and multi-tools.

ps could be Deejo, they make regularly tv commercials
Interesting. I was wondering why they had Laguiole, which is a style, among the brand names.
I had a deejo once, and traded it back to the vendor. It was too avant garde for me. Very cool, but just not moi.

My better half and I just got back from 8 days in Santa Barbara, California. We try to get there every couple of years to spend time with some of our favorite cousins.
It's truly a Garden of Eden, without the snakes.
A few pics.
Fruit trees in the Garden.

Sunset on the beach. Interesting to note that Santa Barbara's coast is in an East west orientation, that with the Channel Islands and Santa Ynez Mountains sets up a Mediterranean climate that is shared by only 4 other places on the planet.

Some most excellent Cioppino. I gained some weight, needless to say.

My wife took this pic for me and I edited it, just for @Modoc ED.

My Pinched Peanut made the trip and came in handy peeling some apples and opening a package or two.

I'm glad to be home and back on the porch. If we didn't have kids and grandkids, whom we love dearly and who are very much part of our everyday lives, I'd think of relocating. We had a fine escape from a rainy cold fall in Syracuse.

That sounds like an amazing and relaxing trip. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Laughing @Modoc ED reference. :D

Looks wonderful Gary. The line about kids and grandkids and relocating sure rings a bell of truth with me.

Almost ready to get started on my great bread experiment.

Good luck Jer :)

An oddly shaped package arrived from Australia. As I took it out of the post office locker, I could feel something struggling to get out. I suppose it was trying to return home, but I managed to grab it before it took flight! :D

A handmade by @meako boomerang! So cool, thank you! I wish I could capture the lovely wood grain in pictures. Echo ran over to help.

I think we found the cormorant:

Thanks, Jon, it's really cool! I might try to throw it some time, but I'll have to find enough open space. I'll probably get lots of exercise chasing after it (Echo does not fetch) :D

That's a very cool gift :)

I've been thinking I need a throwing stick for my chipmunk and red squirrel.
I know where my throwing stars are, but stick or star is likely to ricochet. I could shoot gummi bears at them with a slingshot, if slingshots were allowed in Vermin Haven Township.
A bag of ball bearings!

I have a bunch of rusty ones downstairs; I'll stitch some up in pack-cloth.
mwa ha ha ha.
No, wait! I'll just tie them up in a sock.

Gummi Bears isn't a bad idea for slingshot ammo Jer! :D My dad worked in a large engineering factory, and as a kid, I would often ask him to get me some ball bearings. He's always say, 'Those aren't ball bearings, they're the steel balls that go in the bearing!'

Another package was in the mail box today, from Jack Black Jack Black . As usual when he says he's going to mail something (a Lambsfoot knife that @5K Qs won and passed on to me in the Lambsfoot thread) he goes on to fill the box with all sorts of treasures:
qOyYKOt.jpg

Besides all sorts of candy and snacks (even vegan jerky for my mom!) and fun lamb-themed toys, there are a few cool knives. A Japanese fixed blade (kiridashi?) a Swiss Army style in a nice leather case, and a tiny silver fruit knife.
Plus, a sturdy bottle opener made from an old spindle! I think it might get some use this weekend. :)
Thank you, Jack.

You're very welcome Rachel, glad the package made it across the Pond :)

Looks idyllic Gary, fantastic pics :) Maybe I should move to the Channel Islands :D ;)

I wouldn't say "heavy", Jack Black Jack Black , but substantial for sure.
Strangely, after rising well in the bucket twice, they didn't rise much in the pans. I could have put it all in four tins and had taller bread.

Nice effort Jer, well done :) When I was young, and my mother baked bread, you could have felled a strong man with one of her loaves! :D We enjoyed it because it was filling, but her baking was as bad as her cooking! :D

Just got a blackberry crumble in the oven :)

Very nice Gary, the warmth does the bones good, glad you had a great time:thumbsup::)

I know there are folks who sometimes stop and read this thread without looking at the rest of the forum, so I'm going to post a heads-up here:

If you have ordered a forum knife, you need to use the purchasing link that was PMed to you sometime between Oct 14 and Oct 19. The knives are in the production process at GEC and we need to pay for the knives now. If you need another link then contact Gary or me.

My big sister apparently asked Mom why we couldn't have Wonder Bread like normal people. The rest of us appreciated the home-made honey-whole wheat and the French omelettes on Saturdays.
