"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I got my new Parapluie le Thiers yesterday!

I salute the Confrerie du Couteau le Thiers.

I'll be pretty embarrassed if Jolipapa Jolipapa tells me this one's from Pakistan.
Yoiu can rest confident, this is a real Thiers, no problem, a sturdy user, you may call her (recent) NOS  :D

Mail Call
From Down Under to Waynorth and Places In Between

I should have known something was up when Duncan asked me for my address a few weeks ago, saying he wanted to send me "some wee Kiwi thing". Well the thought of a wee Kiwi thing seemed a little scary, but I'm game!

Next thing I know Charlie ( waynorth waynorth ) is sending me a "Mail Call" message that included a picture of USPS packages along with the message that he, along with Paul ( paulhilborn paulhilborn ), Duncan (@Campbellclanman ), Neal (@herder ), Dave (@knowtracks ) and Mike (@Mike Robuck ) were sending something my way.

What a huge surprise I got! A Waynorth Cutlery cap and a Case-Bose 2011 Coffin Jack arrived in my mailbox. I'm totally blown away by the thoughtfulness and generosity of these wonderful people. I don't see how I deserve such a gift, but I am thankful for it.

We've got a great community here on "The Porch", and these individuals with their contributions in knowledge, their passion for traditional knives, along with their friendly and helpful attitudes, add to the good feeling that permeates this Traditional Forum. We're lucky to have them here.

Thanks for your support and friendship, guys!

The best of the holidays to all of you and your families!

What a perfect example of this wonderful knife. I promise to carry and treasure it.
The hat will be worn with pride!

I bought this very nice horsehide pocket pouch years ago. I've been saving it for something special. Well, this Coffin Jack is it.

It's always right to do the right thing;) and this along with another gift was "the right thing to do" The thanks clearly goes to you Gary as well as Frank. I am fortunate to be included with the others you mentioned above and also fortunate to find this forum some 13+ years ago:)

Thanks again to you and Frank Gary:thumbsup:

The skulduggery extended out to the pacific coast. Like Gary, you could have knocked me over with a feather.

Gary and I recognize that this was no spur of the moment operation. Our friends put much care and thought into what they thought each of us would find pleasing. They struck gold and sent gold.

In my case, it was an Al Mar knife with gold micarta handles and ATS-34 blade steel. It has been most interesting to research. To the best of my tracking, it is a Falcon model made in the early 1980's. It is in mint, unused condition and appears to have the original factory edge, which is very sharp. These were designed by Al Mar himself and made by the G. Sakai Company in Seki, Japan to very precise tolerances. The web site of Al Mar says that the company has been "committed to making unique knife designs at quality levels that rival custom, hand-made knives." I would say that the knife in hand satisfies those standards. The design and the execution are immaculate.

unfortunately, as usual my photography leaves much to be desired.

I don't deserve it, but I will treasure it, both for the gorgeousness of the knife and the high generosity of those who sent it. My thanks to you.

I'm not following Jer, I can't imagine your a thread killer, what happened:confused:o_O
Oh, I don't know. I posted pictures of my seven new knife racks on my kitchen cupboards, and it didn't get much interest, so I wondered if maybe I was being shunned for being too crazy even for a knife knut.
Probably a little paranoid of me. This thread just isn't moving very fast at the moment.

Well, I wasn't shunning you, Jer. I did notice the knife racks, but wasn't sure how to respond. Never seen them mounted on cabinet drawers like that. I did think it looked a little dangerous. Wasn't sure what to say, which doesn't happen often.
However, I do enjoy your posts--they are always interesting.
