"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I decided to take some time over the holiday weekend, and do a nice slow and careful razor edge on my EDC. At work today, I had to cut some plastic band straps that were holding a load of boxes to a wooden pallet. I pulled out my knife and just barely touched the band, and the band flew apart. My coworkers eyes were as big as golf balls, and he wanted to know what kind of special knife I was using. haha, at least it made me feel my efforts were worth it. I tend to only take the time to put a nice edge on my knife 1-2 times a year.

I use shrink wrap LOTS for bundling up pieces of trim, cabinetry wrapped in blankets, etc., to take to job sites. My idea of a sharp blade is to show the knife edge to the shrink wrap and have the shrink wrap melt away in fear. Well yes I exagerate  but the illusion is such that just barely touching the wrap has it give way. Pretty cool effect.

Can't say that my edges would be so successful with plastic band straps. Fun isn't it?

That “Chris Wolf” sure made one UGLY knife...

I am somewhat dubious of the claims made in this ad (from a “best of” Sears catalog compilation I saw in the used book store). Still, that ugly can be a selling point makes me feel a little better about my own looks.

In the short term, I need to get the Black Jack out well before Christmas, JP!! The next is to try and convince GEC to make a scout-type 4-blade on the #35 pattern!! A tough job!! But someone's got to do it!!:D

A Great Ending:

So, I couldn't find my Withrow Slipjoint for the past couple days. At first, I thought it might have slipped underneath the seat of my car and was hiding particularly well, but I still couldn't find it. About 20 minutes ago, I saw a laborer onsite cutting some plastic sheeting, and the distinct bone handles caught my eye. I was so relieved that it had been found! He said he found it on the ground when we had to work well past sundown on Wednesday and after asking the rest of the crew if it was theirs, tossed it into his pocket. He said that I owed him a soft drink to get it back. :D I ran to my trailer and grabbed my Boker Urban Trapper out of my lunch kit and gave it to him as a thanks for safe keeping. It's got a ding in the butt now from where I dropped it and some crud had to be washed out of it, but it's back in my pocket now!

Thank you, GT! I know how you feel up dragging home from work on a Friday night. Getting this beauty back really made my week! I got a chuckle when he said, "That thing is SHARP!"

Paul, while I'm familiar with the saying, I'd rather not test it again! :D
