Y'all can guess what knife I took if you want. I spent a lot of time thinking on it.

Congratulations on the new family member!

Thanks fellas. And yeah, sleep. As you can see by the pic, we didn't get a lot. ;)

Just one word of advice, Dan . . .

Sleep WHENEVER you can!

Thanks fellas. And yeah, sleep. As you can see by the pic, we didn't get a lot. ;)

(Umm...I think Jeff was implying that you likely won't get much sleep for a few months. And if he wasn't, I am.)

CONGRATS! Looks like Mom, Dad, and daughter are all doing fine. Excellent!

Thanks guys. This is our second. Francine is almost four. We are prepared for sleeplessness. ;)

Congratz to the new familymember! What a cute baby! I hope you, your wife and the baby are well :)

Kind regards
Andi

Positive thoughts for those hurting, Hello! Walter....

I had an interesting lunchtime foray....

Had to run in to the 'Nard for some prescriptions for Alice. We lived there for about 27 years. Even though we're in Mission Oaks now, we still get a few of the scrips filled at the Medicine Shoppe in Oxnard. They treat us right and I rarely have to wait. It's reasonably close to work so a lunchtime run is doable.

Once I got done there, I decided to take a run up to a local surplus store. GNG Surplus has been there as long as I can remember, sandwiched between a couple of (now vacant) pawnshops, on Oxnard Boulevard between 5th and 6th Streets.
My earliest ventures there in the 80's were with some trepidation, as it was dark, dank and you had to tread carefully for fear of being buried beneath an avalanche of stuff. Nice little old lady from El Salvador used to run the place. Need some brilliantine from 1940? Got it. Looking for a serape? Got it. Want a WWI entrenching tool? It was in there, somewhere.

I was actually a little sad when I heard she had gone home and passed, and the store closed. That was several years ago. A while back I heard one of her daughter-in-laws had taken the place over and had reopened. Lordy, what a difference! She had cleared out a lot of the true junk and really tidied up the place. A lot of the old toiletries and sundries are now being used to fill some small cases here and there, just for some ambiance and things are really organized, you can actually walk down aisles with out trailing breadcrumbs behind yourself now.

Now don't get me wrong, there's still a lot of crap in there, with little gems strewn about here and there. You just have to look.

Sifting through all the tramontinas, hecho en mexicos, chinese, pakistani, cheap shell Imperials and Providences, and a few cases of truly crap cutlery, plus just looking through the cases in general, I managed to turn up a few prizes;

I don't know how old the Estwing is, but it ain't new. I haven't seen a steel locking Stubai carabiner in decades. The tin had an irresistible patina, and the boot bling is for my desk lamp. (think the leg lamp from "Christmas Story" meets "Howdy Doody")

And then there were these;

Looks to be a CASE Half-Congress, not sure on the steel, not marked. A Ka-Bar Peanut (or is it a Dogleg?) and a Ka-Bar Serpentine Jack, all in great shape.

I didn't even stop for lunch on the way back to work, didn't seem hungry.

I love rooting through shops full of "stuff".... when I can.... :D

I love rooting through the old junk shops and finding this cool stuff. Great haul. Can't wait to get back to my stomping grounds of York and Hanover PA junk shops.

Congratulations to mom and pop! Little knife nut in the making. About sleep I am the oldest of 5. I just turned 33, my youngest sister is 14 soon to be 15 end of the year. My father said he is sure he will not get a good nights sleep ever. He was hoping it might be when my baby sister turns 18 or at least gets out of college, but he still goes around and checks on everyone in the middle of the night. Not a worrier, just a good pop.

Gotta be a little peanut, right? I mean, it would just fit! :-) Congratulations! :thumbup:

The peanut was in the lead for a while...and I didn't stray far. I'll get the pic up. Thanks guys.

The peanut (good guess) was the front runner (Case yeller) for a long time. But this just felt right. ;) I do believe Luella will be receiving this knife shortly (a year or so).
