Black Locust, I believe - scavenged from some clearing that got done for a construction site.

Thanks. I think I could do better if I had more patience, and maybe a belt sander.
Yes, the belt sander makes a huge difference in time spent, which might help with the patience part of it... Harbor Freight sells a pretty nice little sander, and they aren't terribly expensive. That's the route I went, and haven't regretted "buying cheap" at all. I don't give mine a huge workout, just the occasional little task, and it's done a great job for me.

It used to be, a man could rely on his underpants. A man knew, if his underpants label was inside his waistband and behind his back, his fly would be where he reached for it when he needed it.
Now, the label might be inside or outside, front or back, sewn or printed.
There's nothing funny about an old man who can't find his fly.
At least; not, to the old man in question.

I hope I haven't done my Andy Rooney bit here before. Pity my grey hairs.

But who knew shorts would get tricky? Those pictured are explicable. They're just too big, so I look like I'm wearing the top of some living room curtains.

But I have a pair of Carhartt shorts. They should be tough guy shorts, right? But when I put them on I feel like I should be in that old Nair commercial. "If you dare wear short shorts, Nair for short shorts. Nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh."
I'm pretty sure I bought them well after the Tom Seleck Magnum PI hot pants days.

No word on Randy huh? I'll try to get an e-mail out to him.
Hey Ed, you ever get in touch with Randy? I was riding to work this morning using the 44 gunstock he gave me as a worry stone and got to thinking about him. So I did a search and found your post was the last anyone has mentioned him. Hopefully all is well,I know he had devoted himself more to his music and wasn't active on here much lately.

I'm sure Modoc ED Modoc ED would have something interesting to add to this conversation. ;)

Well, that would depend on whether yer talking shorts or skivvies. I like wearing loose fitting shorts so that I can use one of those urinal cans in the car while riding back from the hospital after my cancer surgeries - 400 miles from hospital to home. As far as skivvies go - if yer getting old and can't keep track of the fly on yer skivvies, just put a big X with a magic marker on the fly when ya get em - problem solved.

I haven't heard from him. He did this for about a year and a half the last time. Hopefully he's ok. You're right - since he had that malady of problems - in a wheelchair and domestic issues, he has immersed himself in music especially, I think in guitars.

Brilliant!
Except they aren't always white anymore, sometimes they're magic marker black. Where are you supposed to find a white magic marker?
he has immersed himself in music especially,
Not a bad place to be.

Just go by any welding supply store and get one of those white marking pens used for marking metal. Failing that, have yer other half put a safety pin on the elastic band over the fly.

I had reached out to Randy a few months back, late March I believe. He was doing okay, but taking time away from the forums and focusing on other things at the time.

I've heard that Coyote will kill peoples' pets in their garden, so cats and medium sized dogs are not safe.. unpleasant and if you keep any manner of ducks or chickens....

Foxes are becoming urbanised here like in Britain as there's plenty of bins, fast-food muck and no hunters. They have a go at the Hares (Jackrabbit) but they're usually much too fast for them :D In this area there's been a massive amount of wood cutting this past decade- good income when other sources are thin, but it has displaced animals and reduced the bird population quite noticeably. An offshoot of this has been an increase in the Wolf population as Deer and Elks (Moose) get displaced . I've seen a Wolf, or rather met one by accident, at close quarters on a path, very odd but moving experience- and I'm usually wary/scared of big aggressive dogs for instance . But he just regarded me, astonished, stayed still and then very purposefully disappeared like a spirit back into the forest- and so quiet, unlike dogs who tend to crash about etc. What I'd most like to see is a Lynx, but they're shy and up trees out of sight but they see you....
There's an abandonned raiilway down my street, foxes are not uncommon, they chase rats, but don't show because we also have people who would catch them, so you must be very patient to see one.
Lynxes also are very shy usually, but in the Vosges mountain 5 already have been run over by cars, they're looking for females and loose their self control and try and cross roads. By night they behave like simple cats and are petrified by car lights.
The confinment had many side effects on animals. Recently (#15 years) a couple of crows settled in the trees behind my home. During the confiment they discovered they were the Kings of the street and since have moved from behind to the front, flying much lower than they had done before.

While some of you are looking for the fly on your shorts or skivvies, will you please look for my package with my new knife? It left Knoxville, TN last Tuesday via USPS First Class Package Service and should have been here Friday but is now in Barrigada, GU. The USPS is getting worse and worse.

It’s no accident. There is a fox in the henhouse in the person of Postmaster General Louis De Joy

I agree with you on about 85% of that Henry. The other 15% of that is human error. Some dumb arse had to make a concious decision to toss a package marked CA (California) to the GU (Guam) basket. AND it use to be that when you dropped off a piece of mail at the post office there would be a posted notice that mail received after a specified time would not go out that day except for priority, registered, and certified mail. Now, according to a friend of mine at our local post office, nothing accepted after that specified time goes out - that's a De Joy change. It's getting to the point that I don't use a dealer/store that doesn't offer some type of shipping other than USPS. If possible, I always go with FEDEX second day or UPS second day in that order.
