I think I'm going to order a pizza for breakfast!@Nature Boy
Mike,
As a former Detroiter one of the things I miss most is the pizza. Best explained here;
Of course it can be made anywhere but it is rarely made quite like at Buddy's where it was invented and each slice was a heavenly deep dish meal.![]()
What Is Detroit Style Pizza - Why Is It Unique - Slice Pizzeria
Detroit is a place known for three things, music, cars, and fantastic pizza. Detroit has produced major pizza chain giants like Dominos and Little Caesars. But, you cannot mention pizza in the United States and ... <a title="What Is Detroit Style Pizza – Why Is It Unique" class="read-more"...www.slicepizzeria.com
I don't order pizza very often, but when I do, I usually order two, so I have one for the next day!
That's clear culinary thinking Jack and economical, we do the same.I don't order pizza very often, but when I do, I usually order two, so I have one for the next day!Very interesting to read about the Detroit pizza

Wi-fi at the cottage we're renting seems more reliable this week than it was last week (nowhere to go but up), so I'll try sneaking a post in here. This is not knife-related, just a curious thing I discovered back in April 2020 when COVID-19 shut down my state, I was banned from my campus and its mail facilities, and I started walking about 1.25 miles to the nearest US Post Office when I needed to use some kind of mail services. I noticed that across the street from the Post Office was a pizza joint I had never seen nor heard about before I walked by it. It was, of course, shut down at the time and I found its name amusingly ironic for the pandemic situation with which we were all dealing. Never remembered to take a photo of it until one day last month.

I looked to see if you were from Georgia. That's what my cousins down there do. Or at least used to, I haven't been down there in a while. It’s all “coke.”![]()
Only if you have a beer with itBreakfast of champions!![]()
I'll do cold pizza and chicken, but cold fish is called "bait"We do that, too. Do you reheat your leftover pizza in the oven or eat it cold? I’ll reheat deep dish pizza, but I enjoy leftover thin crust pizza cold (usually with some Secret Aardvark on it).
Other leftovers that are great eaten cold: fried chicken and fried catfish.

Thanks, Barrett. I have to confess I've never eaten there, despite having walked by the building dozens of times in the past year and a half. And I don't know how close to the "real deal" Quarantino's Detroit-style pizza would be; we're in the same state as Detroit, but 150+ miles from Detroit, and there's a lot of substantial differences between Detroit and the "West Coast" of Michigan! That’s funny, GT!Looks like they’ve survived the pandemic (so far at least), so that’s a plus.
Have you ever tried the pizza there? I was just looking around on their site and it looks pretty good! Although I’ve never been to Detroit, I love Detroit-style pizza (and it’s highly likely the Detroit-style pizza I’ve had isn’t even as good as the “real deal.”)

I was reading a novel recently in which the protagonist, a native of Minnesota, was chasing criminals in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I was rather appalled by the way the author butchered the geography of the U.P., and had the character remark that that soft drinks were called "pop" in MN but "soda" in MI - I'm pretty sure MI is a "pop" state, bottom to top!...
It’s all “coke.”
...
My wife almost always reheats leftover pizza, but I always eat it cold. I prefer cold pizza to fresh hot pizza, and will occasionally order a pizza that I don't even taste until it's been in the fridge overnight. We do that, too. Do you reheat your leftover pizza in the oven or eat it cold? I’ll reheat deep dish pizza, but I enjoy leftover thin crust pizza cold (usually with some Secret Aardvark on it).

Have to disagree with this one. Everybody I know in Tennessee and Missouri says, "soda". Everybody I know up north says. "pop".soda is a northern term.
Born in Arkansas, lived there until my mid-20’s. I think “coke” as a generic term for soda is fairly common across the south. Of course, now I live in the land of “pop” — it’s probably one of my least favorite things about Minnesota.![]()
I was telling my mate's boy about that last week, and he wasn't sure if I was making it up!It’s all “coke.”![]()

The thing about anchovies, is only use a couple/three for a whole pie. Chop them up and sprinkle them across. Adds an additional flavor and a little saltiness. I never get them on a pizza that I order, because most places put a whole handful of them on it and then all I can taste is anchovies. And I don't like them that muchI like anchovies on my pie. My wife hates them. Says I’m eating bait![]()
It was a cheap shady way to earn money as a young guy. I made enough to eat. When I won a bit it just trickled out to other players as I would lose it playing better people. After a few years of pool I quit. You just watch the money move around. Nobody really spends it it seems. Just gambled away again. Playing in a real pool hall the players generally don’t drink. Don’t do much other than play. And the only way to get better is to play better players. And they only play for cash. I think I spent 12 hours a day in a pool room on average to live off pizza in a one bedroom. I took my phone calls there. I lived practically lived there. Was kind of like a little family, different than a bar. Bar room playing was like swimming in a kiddie pool. Didn’t bother with that. And guys in a bar get real pissed quick if you try to take their beer money. The fact that you made a living shooting pool...
