I've tried Japanese Maples twice before but for some reason they don't get along well with my Oak trees and never survive longer than a year.
Yeah they can be frustrating. They like a lower ph water and soil than the tap offers. I buffer my water with an acid to get it low enough (6.0-6.5ish) so they can thrive. It’s more work though. And they die quick if they dry out. They are one of those gotta watch ‘‘em plants. ;)

My property has many Oak trees, but I always wanted a tree that would give me some Fall colors. So earlier this year I planted a Main Street Maple next to my back porch. I'm super happy this year to finally have my own tree with vibrant red and orange leaves.

Very pretty John. 😊
I took this picture a few days ago of the only maple tree we have on our property. It usually holds it’s leaves longer than many of the trees around it which gives us the opportunity to enjoy its bright yellow color. 😎A2EA7BFD-D472-436B-A5FA-3AFC483DB394.jpeg

Nice colors, John!🍁 We have a big maple tree in the center of our front yard (not sure what type). We bought the house in summer, and the tree was full of dark green leaves with a hint of red to them. I thought for sure it would be beautiful come fall. Yeah, not so much. It hangs onto its leaves for a week or two after all the other trees, and about half of them fall without changing color at all, and the other half go from dark green straight to brown with nothing in between. 🙄

I have no idea about your tree but keep in mind there can be a huge difference year to year. Sometimes ours are magnificent Red or Orange, other years, totally blah. Almost nothing this year.

I should have clarified, we didn't buy the house this summer; this is our fourth fall in this house. Same disappointing results from that maple every year. 😁

Liquid Amber trees do well with oak trees, and develop those amazing fall colors. But you do need to rake in the fall.
We had both at the house I where I grew up

For a beautiful deciduous green turning scarlet tree...The Persian WitchHazel is nice...medium sized tree for gardens...I planted one about 5 or 6 yrs ago in the grounds of my kids school ( it replaced 2 overgrown and badly maintained trees that I cut down...plus as I was the P&C (PTA) Pres. I could do whatever I liked...) I wonder if its still there? It was planted in honour of my ex wife who did a lot for the school in the years we were there .

Those are some beautiful colors John . We have a lot of OAK and HICKORY and only 1 MAPLE . All of the Oaks were a Blah , all of the Hickory were Yellow , and the Maple was very pretty with Reds and Yellows but not as pretty as your's and I never got any pictures . Which I regret .
