Got gas in my truck yesterday on the Indian Reservation. There are no State or Federal taxes or fees. Here in CA the taxes and fees add up to $1.18 . Here's the breakdown:

Taxes:
Federal Excise Tax: 18 cents per gallon
State Excise Tax: 51 cents per gallon
Sales Tax (estimated): 10 cents per gallon

Fees:
Low Carbon Gas Programs: 22 cents per gallon
Greenhouse Gas Programs: 15 cents per gallon
Underground Tank Storage: 2 cents per gallon

$1.18 per gallon

I took on 11.7 gallons so, I saved $13.80 by buying at the reservation. Their gas was $4.99 versus $6.51 in town.

Anyway, it looks like there's no price ceiling in sight.

Here we pay, at least, $9.20 for a US gallon. More than yesterday, less than tomorrow. Hard times.

Dan.

I actually remember when gasoline sold for .35¢ a gallon and sometimes even cheaper especially when gas wars between gas stations on opposing corners were trying to out do each other. There was a Gulf Gas station in Hollin Hall, VA (a small suburb south of Alexandria, VA) that would give away 5-gallons of gas free with an oil and oil filter change.

Times have changed.

I remember buying gas for $0.35 per gallon when I went into the Air Force in 1968. Only problem was, my take-home pay at the time was $294.00 a month, I had a car payment of $63.00 a month, and my car got maybe 18 miles per gallon on the highway. Even with house and utilities provided, gas still took a chunk of the budget.

I would like to think that I can remember back to 25.9 cents a gallon , but I know I pumped a lot of it at 32.9 cents

I remember when my parents absolutely freaked out when gas hit $1.00 during the Energy Crisis.
Well, in fairness, $1 in 1970 was worth the same as $7.25 today. When the price tops $7.25 I bet a lot of people will be squawking. Sadly our Californian friends will probably be getting there faster, but I don't think it is impossible that it will hit all of us.
