"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

These post-blizzard posts about snow/ice on the roof inspired me to post an update about how weird the weather seems to me this year.
Here's what my garage roof looked like last week Monday. It was interesting to see how the wind was constantly restyling the snowy "hairdo" of the garage roof throughout the storm, and in the 38 years I've lived here, I've never seen such a "snow overhang" on the garage roof before!

By Thursday, the garage roof was entirely clear of snow, as were most of the sidewalks and yards! 24"+ of snow disappeared even faster than it appeared. IIRC, we've really only had snow 3 times so far this year (mid-November, the weekend before Christmas, and the Christmas blizzard), but all 3 times were more than a foot of snow, and 2 of them were over 2 feet! Yet all the snow (except possibly shoveled/plowed piles) from each snowfall disappeared completely before the next snowfall occurred - very weird (but wonderful) IMHO!

Thanks for the compliments, Jer. :) The house probably looks its most charming to the general public with a fresh snowfall on its roof (but I personally don't enjoy that view much). Speaking of facing south, here's a shot of the south side of our house the day after the latest snow event ended (the north side looked very similar). I thought that over the years, we had added enough attic insulation and ventilation to eliminate our icicle problems, but there must have been something about the conditions in the snowstorm the weekend before Christmas (lots of snow that was relatively wet due to relatively high temps??) that fostered the development of massive icicles on our house, and most of the houses in our quadrant of the city.

I see that you've already contacted your attorney(s) about the matter. 🤓😁

Looking at these photos, I thank God I moved to Texas!

Come on down we got a guest room all ready!
That's an offer that's hard to turn down! 🤓
But I've been walking almost everywhere I go for the past couple of years, and it looks like about 1300 miles from my place to yours. I can only make about 3.5 mi/hr these days on a long walk, and I'd hate to walk more than 8 hr/day, so you can expect me just after Valentine's Day!🤓

A friend of mine I've known since 6th grade called out of the blue today. We had stayed in touch sporadically, but it had been around 10 years since we last spoke. You know how time gets away. Sometimes when speaking with people you used to be close to in the past, but have lost touch with, you find you don't have much to talk about. Bryan and I talked for over an hour. It was almost like time hadn't passed. Made my day :D
Old friends :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

This happened to me before Christmas. (Navy buddy fm. Cali.) It‘s interesting to to realize how you remember it one way, and your friend remembers it another. They will recall details you long forgot, and vise versa.
Glad you mentioned this!

I was at the local cafe...We spoke for over an hour on the phone...there were tears at one point...the lady who runs the shop didnt charge me for my coffee....and gave me free carrot cake...

Those type of conversations can be a little painful, and cathartic at the same time. I've been there and done that...

lol :D
The game I saw took place at a steam-engine tractor enthusiast gathering.
It was amazing to see a field full of running, fully restored antique steam tractors.
The pitcher and batter stood next to their machines and did what pitchers and batters do. If the batter got a hit, he and the fielder closest to the ball, jumped on their machines and took the appropriate action. (Either base running riding on a steam tractor or fielding by way of chugging along on a tractor to the ball.) IIRC a game was only one inning but took a substantial amount of time. Steam engine tractors are not real fast. :)
Yes, it was a bit slow to watch but at the same time quite a sight to behold and considerably entertaining.:thumbsup:
