"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Later that day....tore my calf muscle whilst galavanting in the surf...literally had to crawl out and up the beach...i can barely walk and a lot of agony...i was a mile from civilisation ...fortune smiled on me ...i got a call from a mate and he was able to pick me up from the nearby lookout.
See what happens when you disrespect the (shudder) dropbear.

I walked up the beach about a km and immersed myself in the warm Pacific water...there was no one around ..just me. I explored up a dry creek that runs onto the beach...strewn with tons of broken timber and driftwood...barefoot of course....in the marram grass I almost trod on a what i think was a small eastern brown snake ..it slithered away very fast...lucky me ...if it tagged me on the foot I likely wouldnt have made it....
I used to wander around my yard barefoot. Then I read an article in the Missouri Conservationist that said something like 70% of copperhead bites in Missouri happened to people walking barefoot at night in their yard  Now I put shoes on if I go out after dark :)

IIRC the eastern brown snake venom is extremely toxic. Most people survive a copperhead bite.

Sometimes footwear won't help, being calm does. This was last month

One more day and we will have made it through one of the most eventful weeks in the year.
> Tuesday was "PI day",
> Wednesday was "Ides of March",
> and tomorrow, St. Paddy's day.
A three-fer. Hard to find three-fer weeks.
