I think my point earlier about meat...on reflection is I don't find the thought of dog or cat meat appetising....my SAS survival handbook also warns against the toxic levels of vitamin A found in Polar Bears Livers.....can't ever see that being a problem for me personally.....as for Crocodile...tastes like a chicken that lives in a pond.

Growing up in Alaska I was certainly taught that the Polar Bear Liver was specifically hazardous. It's mostly important to know (I think) because you'd probably need to be desperate to eat Polar Bear in the first place, so someone that desperate might try to eat the liver. I remember reading an account by some arctic explorers in the 1990s who had to kill a polar bear, and decided to save some of the meat for a treat. Then when they gave themselves their "treat" sometime later they learned that polar bear is very unpalatable. I certainly wouldn't eat any part of a polar bear unless I was under pretty severe food stress.

I like braunschweiger very much and have it often. Sometimes, sliced with saltine crackers or Ritz crackers and sometimes on bread for a sandwich with mustard. I also like deer liver. If you soak the liver in milk overnight it''ll take the harshness out of the liver. Same goes for elk and antelope liver too..

About once every five years or so, I crave liver and onions - or sometimes a liverwurst and onion sandwich on rye!! 😋
I've been told not to eat it, but I figure I'll survive that rare snack - so delicious!!😁
For the first 20 years of our marriage, my wife and I didn't go out to restaurants very often (other than monthly Chinese food), maybe 6 or 8 times per year. And I'd order liver and onions whenever it was available at whatever place we were eating.

Seems like I hardly ever see it on menus anymore when we go out for lunch or dinner.

I remember reading an account of some explorers who got Vitamin A poisoning from polar bear liver. One of the things that happened is that the soles of their feet came off. At first they thought they had just got snow in their boots!

Now you're talking Charlie! :) I like calves or lambs liver best, but I've had plenty of ox, pigs, and chicken liver too :) Strangely, I haven't had liver in ages

Sounds horrible!!!

Whether consciously or not, liver is being more and more shunned in society!!
It's an odd mix of very healthy, and not so healthy ingredients!! IMHO!!!

Interesting about Polar Bear liver, I assume that Seal liver has equally toxic amounts as they live in the same place and Polar Bears are keen devourers of them ? All about winter blubber maybe. Bear meat , non Polar, was regarded as a rare delicacy here in Tsarist times and subsequently, never had it though and it can be dried too. Hugely expensive no doubt, Goose is a bird I like but that's just off the charts in price, 125€ and more for a bird.

I like to rule liver of any kind out of my food life, there's worse though- kidney horrible stinking stuff  that and bowel, brain, pancreas, hoof, horn and...;) Liver used to be cheap and widely liked, one reason for its decline in popularity might be that with increased industrial type farming, animals are fed growth enhancers, anti biotic, vaccines and various drugs that can accumulate heavily in the organs. If I could, I'd exist on Venison, Elk (Moose), Bison, Rabbit, Hare, Game birds and free range poultry.

Liver and onions was/is one of my mom’s favorites, but she was the only one in our immediate family who would eat it, so she only had it when she’d go back to my grandparents house and my grandma would make it for her.

Sliced braunschweiger makes a great sandwich, or fried as a breakfast treat with over-easy eggs and hashbrowns.

Ok, I have had braunschweiger before — my uncle ordered it when we were at a brewery together, because he used to eat it with my grandpa growing up — and I’ll admit that it wasn't bad.

That’s great, Charlie! We started doing Christmas cards when we had kids. They certainly don’t have that impressive level personal touch, but they’ll have pictures of the girls on them, and I have my own little tradition of picking a Christmas movie quote for the back of each year’s card. 🎄🎅
