"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

A Woolly Bear Caterpillar report for Central NY.
Supposedly, less black towards the head (left) and more towards the tail indicates winter begins mildly, and ends harshly. The more brown bands, the more moderate the winter overall.
Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming...

here in northwestern PA, I've been seeing them with lots of black at both ends, only 1 segment of brown in the middle. I guess that means lots of lake effect snow heading our way this year.

I wonder about that Louvre robbery. They let somebody park a truck with an "electric ladder" right against the wall. When they respond to the alarms set off by the "disc cutter" (=cutting wheel?) at the window, multiple security guards are frightened into submission with this disc cutter. The other security guards evacuate the whole museum, creating massive confusion which may not have done much to hinder the robbery and escape.

I’m not sure I trust their weather forecasting abilities, mostly because I’ve seen several here this year, and the colors have ranged from entirely brown to mostly black and just about everything in between. 🙄🤣

Barrett, I think their predictive powers are quite localized. ;)
(Or have you seen differently-colored ones in the same spot?)

Well I saw both of those on my walks on the Dakota Rail Trail recently. The first one was around mile 17, while the second was somewhere near mile 22. I suppose it's possible that two parts of Minnesota 5 miles apart could have drastically different winters, but it seems unlikely. 😉😁

I see from clicking on your avatar that you're in Minnesota, so like me, living here in the mountains of PA, you can pretty much count on the Winter being cold. With snow.:)

The average snow for us is 127.8" a year. So, it really doesn't matter a whole lot what the Woolly Bear Caterpillar or the weather forecasters report, we'll have a winter.

You would think so, but the last two winters here have not been very Minnesota-y. Unusually warm and not much snow. Hoping we get a real winter this year.

Last winter around here was about average as far as cold goes, but we didn't get as much snow as usual. We only got a couple heavy snows, but it did drop plowable snow pretty often, so my new tractor got a good breaking in.

Cue the jokes about French surrenders...

Looks like they caught the guys, though they're not saying if they got the jewels back before they were chopped up and melted down.

BBC's expert former jewel thieves say it looks like an inside job.

I just got back from riding my (adult) trike to town. (I needed chew tobaccy & nic pouches.)
Got attacked by a ~90 pound golden retriever (with collar & tags) on way to town!!! 🤯😳
I was a feared I was gonna get licked to death ... he kep trying to climb on my lap, too. 😇
At least he didn't follow me like the friendly pit bull (no collar or tags) I met in Homestead, FL. did.
