Being an old retired geezer one of the simple pleasures I enjoy is getting up early and going downtown to a little Mexican restaurant to slurp coffee and have a breakfast taco. It is usually the same folks every morning. One large table where the local ranchers and peach farmers sit and talk politics, rain, feed prices. Then there are various workmen getting ready to start their day. Practically everyone in the place wears a hat or cap. Now I always wear a cap but leave it in the car. Dear old Mom and Dad taught me not to wear a hat at the table. Doesn't bother when others do, it's just something I have noticed while people watching. Mostly ball caps but also quite a few cowboy hats in the crowd, (Texas Hill Country town, ya know).

Yesterday there was man and woman sitting near me. The man was wearing a ball cap and his wife was hatless.:D Another man wearing a ball cap walks up to their table, shakes hands with man and starts talking to him. I could not hear them but I guess the seated man introduces his female companion to the other guy. He stuck out his right to shake hands with the woman and in the same motion reaches up with his left hand, removes his hat, speaks to the woman, and then puts his cap back on this head. Yes, he tipped his hat to the woman! I bet he had a slip joint in his pocket.

Hat tipping the ladies. I may give it try sometime and see what sort of looks I get.:D

Chivalry's not so dead as ya may think. Standing up when a woman enters or leaves, opening doors, removing my cover at the appropriate times, aren't these things that you guys do too?
Shoot... At this point, my wife's trained to reach out for my hand whenever she ascends the 4 stairs to our front door, and if I don't offer it (hands might be full, or I haven't juggled everything I'm carrying into my right hand just yet so I can offer her the left), she sticks her hand out into the air, reaching, and then gives me a funny look. ;)

Yep, same over here in Yorkshire! I was in a small Yorkshire market town a few years back, early afternoon, they had a feller on the door for some reason. Very apologetically, he asked me if I wouldn't mind taking off my cap when I went inside. I was a bit perplexed, why would I keep it on, is it raining in there? :)

Got a funeral director at the bottom of my street, pretty regular business from what I see. Just recently, I got to the bottom of the street when a funeral cortege was passing, took off my cap. The funeral director actually stopped me a few days later to thank me!

I went for a hike at the Turkey Point trail, in Elk Neck state park in Maryland on Sunday morning. Beautiful day, however, I didn't get there early enough, it was a real pain in the butt getting out of their small parking lot. Luckily I spoke with a ranger and asked if it was okay to park where I did. After my accident, it was good to know that I was able to hike the 2 miles without any issues.

Later on I stopped at the boat launch, and after that I visited the Upper Bay museum, a museum devoted to duck hunting on the bay.

Marylands water ways are beautiful, but not always the cleanest...

The museum in North East was more enjoyable than visiting the decoy museum in Havre de Grace. I look forward to going back with a real camera, not just my cellphone camera. Interestingly enough, I asked one of the guides, a local carver, where are all the knives? Shotguns, rifles, duck guns, mounted artillery for duck hunting, axes, tools. No knives. Not even wood carving knives on display? Surely they must've had some knives that lasted over the years? He said the curator would look into it, he seemed genuinely surprised.

Thanks for the tour sir, how are you feeling, over the nastiness? :)

This is Maria. Sorry I have t posted but there has not been any new/ good news until today they have just movedd Paul into a regular room out of ICU things are finally looking like be is going to be ok. It was touch and go last week and we didn't think he was going make it. They removed the drain tube this morning and he is no longer on oxygen. The dr says he may be able to come home in a few more days. He asked for his Charlow today so he is back! Thank you again for all the prayers. And to whoever sent the flowers in the name of your friends from Blade Forum an extra special THANKYOU that really meant a lot Paul he usually does not seem too excited about flowers and cards but he has mentioned those flowers at least a half dozen times!

Maria, I'm so glad to hear this encouraging report.

(I've been afraid to look/ask.)

Thanks so much for taking the time to let us know.

The anecdote about the Charlow is a sweet one indeed.

I hope you and Paul can both start getting some true rest soon.

~ P.

Maria, thanks for your update.

It´s good to hear that Paul will be back up, propably soon. That´s really good news - but my prayers will be further for you and your family until he´s back home and well again.

However - great news... really great news...

Greetz from Bavaria!

I went to work for about an hour yesterday, and turned around and came home. My job is about an hour south of me on the west side of Baltimore, so you know that was fun. I did get to talk with a client, or rather I wheezed and sounded like Gollum smoking a box of Newports. I stayed home today, went back to the docs office and got a new antibiotic. Even though I feel like roadkill run over for the hundredth time, I actually feel better. Only two hours since I took my first of many pills, but I'm beginning to feel like a real human being again. Congestion, wheezing, short of breath, sore throat, ear pain etc. All horrible still, but no pneumonia to speak of, just sick. Doc wants me to go back on Monday, I am a pigheaded Polish Irish Blackfoot, I do what I want :D. I plan on going back to work tomorrow, I only have a couple days leave left. We'll see how good I feel tonight, and if my raccoon buddies come back. They were sitting patiently on my front porch about 1am this morning, and I didn't know whether to chase them off, or thank them for driving the cats away. Sitting patiently waiting for the cat food bowls to be refilled. They are fine and actually cute, did not appear rabid, but that will change if they decide to play Demon Barber of Fleet Street with my labradors. Then they will have to contend with me and Mr. Remington 870. If they are a nuisance, Mr. Havahart may be employed first.

Maria that is the best news I've heard in a long while. I am so glad to hear this! Zinc and orange juice for your hubby! V8 too, that stuff is like Valvoline, keeps you running forever. I love it, first thing he asked for were his Charlows. More prayers and good thoughts for your husband, and for you. We are rooting for him!

This is Maria. I was reading this thread this morning and then went to get some breakfast. A young man maybe in his early twenties tipped his hat and opened the door for me. I said thank you and just out of curiosity do you have a knife? It was a case stockman with bone handles. It looked very much like the one my dad used to carry.

Maria, that's great news. It was a sigh of relief to hear, I can only imagine what weight must have lifted when you got that good news.

Wish Paul a speedy recovery. I hope he's soon home and back on his feet again.

Best wishes.

Thom

Very good news, indeed, Maria. Thank you for posting a update.

As for hats go, I ALWAYS take my hat off when I am introduced to someone, inside a building, and definitely at the table.

Kris

What good news, so glad to hear Paul is recovering. Thanks for taking the trouble to keep us abreast of Paul's situation Maria. Hope he's back to normal very soon.

And a big  to whoever sent the flowers :)

Jack

Thanks for the update, Maria. I'm so glad to hear that Paul is rallying.

Great news, Maria! Thanks be to a faithful God and to all the selfless well-wishers on this forum who helped bring it about.

+1 with Sarah about the rest-- peace and strength to you both.

This is maria. Yes I am worn out, I have' t really gotten much sleep in the last couple weeks. Between driving back and forth from Owensboro to Nashville, worrying about Paul, who was going to watch the kids next trying to make it to work ect. This reminds me of something I just wanted to tell someone. I never really thought about it but McDonald's restaurant has a donation box by their drive thru window where you can drop your change. This money goes to the Ronald house, they provide free lodging for family members of out of town hospital patients. They put me up free of charge several times in the last few weeks. I/we don't go to Micky D's much but from now on when I do, my change is going in that box!
