"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Late 30's running at German artillery with a broadsword, bow and arrows, with the pipes to boot! Wow Alex, that's crazy. That's him. Thanks.

Please pray for my uncle everyone, he is also my godfather. He's having open heart surgery. Thank you.

'Mad Jack' sounds absolutely, er, mad! I doubt he'd have got away with his longbow and broadsword in the ranks, rather than as an officer. Thanks for the link Alex (did you get my PM BTW?).

Hope your uncle will be OK Dan.

Dan,
I'm sure your uncle will be ok; he will just need a few days to recover from surgery, and then he'll be off to his place for rehab. When he's recovered, gift him a knife ;)

Duncan,
welcome to the old continent  too bad I can't fly to the UK...so we'll meet another time. In NZ ;)

Smoke in the air for you and yours, Dan. Best of luck to your uncle and godfather.

Jack, I don't see it... Checked my BFC inbox and my email. Re-send please?

I wanted to share some wonderful gifts sent to me by Jack Black.

Jack, I want to thank you from my heart, my friend. I decided that they needed to be framed. I decided to keep the lucky penny and the button hook out so that I could use them in more pictures.

Thanks again for you kindness.

That's a great display, I especially like the old 'Britannia in her wheelchair' penny.

We're having bad midge weather here in Lewis today. For those of you who have never been to Scotland, I must explain that I have travelled all over the globe, throughout most of Europe, North Africa, China, South America and nowhere have I ever found any kind of bug more ferocious than the Highland midge. To the untrained eye I resemble a bad case of measles.

Paul

Sorry to hear about your bout with the midge, Paul. I will have to look this one up. I hope you heal quickly.

Thanks for the compliment.

Paul,
sorry to hear that. Hopefully you will get better soon (right now it must feel quite bad, I guess).
By the way, my cousin will be staying in Oban for a few months, so I might fly and visit him up there (not too far from you, if I'm not mistaken). I've visited Glasgow but haven't seen much of it and nothing at all of the rest of Scotland, so this might be a good time for it :)

Oban is west coast too, although unless you have your own boat it's an awkward trip to the Outer Hebrides. You will get some superb whisky in Oban!

I have only just realised the sneaky Yorkshire rose hiding above the knives, tell me, what is the yellow shadow pattern? I recognise the others I think.

Glad that they arrived my friend. Something from all four corners of the globe I think, from Brasil to Hong Kong, and Australia to Norway. I thought your sister might like the button hook, but leave that to you. Sorry I forgot to put a card in :)

I like your display!

On the reverse of the penny, Queen Victoria is pictured as a young woman. I have to say, she wasn't exactly an oil painting even then! ;) :D

Very sorry to hear about the midgies Paul, they are certainly ferocious beasts!

The knife in the middle of the two Sheffields is an old German 'Forged Warranted Steel' knife. A very simple thing, with one of the blades broken and reground. What I liked about it was that someone cared that much about it to do that. That knife must have led quite a life.

Paul, looks like Jack answered your question.

Thanks again, Jack. The display is working out well, until I come up with a better creative idea.

Glad to hear he's OK Dan. Sounds like he's taken it in his stride! ;)
