2.8, unfortunately. I've heard they're some of the worst of these years.

uuugggghhhh. One of those engines that perhaps should have never been. Good luck. Doubt you'll get 20 MPG. You'd be lucky to get that. Probably closer to 15 if everything is running and operating per design. You may get closer to 10.

Nice little ranger. Yeah the 2.8 is junk but good news is that a 302 wouldnt be to hard of a swap. Keep it mild and you can pull 20+ mpg on the highway in that light truck.

Well yesterday, my son wrapped up an internship at Montpelier, James Madison's home. Today he left for Israel for a month of digging, field work, and study at Tel Lachish.

A couple of hours ago we dropped him off at the airport for a flight to Zurich enroute to Tel Aviv. He called his older sister after we left, and she asked if he was nervous about traveling by himself to which he responded, "I'm about to sh*t in my pants". I couldn't help but laugh when she told me that. He's never been out of the country, and he's traveling by himself. He posted a pic on facebook from his window seat while at the gate so I know he at least made it on the plane. He'll have a blast the next month.

Good thoughts for him to have a good time...and safe.

Man, man, man - I ordered two knives in the US about seven weeks ago. They didn´t arrive yet. A Queen and a GEC 440C. Slowly I start to worry a little. I hope the package will arrive at all.

This is, what I don´t like on international shipping - long long delays due to customs :grumpy:

I'm waiting for my NKCA-swayback for 6 weeks now - I know what you mean with "worried", Andi :(

Hi Peter!

The package arrived just yesterday :) :D

It seems that german customs is pretty slow right now. Maybe it´s due to vacation time ....

At least I hope so and on other periods of time it will get sooner & betterr.

Hello again all!

The cycle was fantastic and we all made it through just fine (apart from one poor lady who banjaxed her achilles, ironically she's a physiotherapist). I'm still collecting all the donations and sponsor money so I don't know how much was raised yet, but I'll definitely be doing it again next year. Me and a buddy intend to do it on a tandem next year too!

When I got back I found out that my workload had expanded massively while I was away so I've been very busy at the station, which is why I haven't posted recently.

A couple of days ago a package arrived from Leghog. The prize from his bullnose giveaway. It's a great knife, I've not had a Sodbuster type slipjoint before and it's a great pattern. No frills, all business. I'll take some pictures when I get the chance but I just wanted to let you all know that he (Leghog) is an awesome guy and a valuable member of this forum.

Thankyou Leghog,
and take care everybody!

Paul

I'm sure he'll be fine. I've been going through the same stuff recently. My daughter returned from Ukraine and Poland just before Russia invaded, and she's been doing an internship in Philadelphia for the past month. It's probably harder on the parents I think. My daughter's boyfriend just got back from a month in Greece. He's barely ever left the hills of eastern Kentucky and won't even drive a car in traffic, he survived very well.

I know he'll be fine. He had a blast in Tel Aviv the last four days and moved to Tel Lachish today for the field work. He's making memories that'll last him a lifetime. I still fondly recall my field work at the end of my degree work for a Bachelor of Science in Geology 30 years ago this summer.

My son called. For the better part of the next month, he's in the desert at Lachish about 15 miles from Hebron in the West Bank. He said jets are scrambling toward the West Bank since the discovery of the three teens' bodies in the desert. Netanyahu has said he'd retaliate, and Netanyahu rarely used empty words. My son is a little spooked.

I hope everyone stays out of harm's way. The terrorists who abducted and killed those young men in Israel are cowardly criminals.
Our kids are supposed to outlive us.

Back to Ranger pickups, they improved over the years. I don't understand why they quit making them, but it's hard to second guess Ford - after all they were the only ones who didn't need bailing out!

I find mine very pleasant and useful. Most times it will keep up with a Jeep off-road, yet it's much nicer on the highway. This is a 2000, and I've had it since new, needing nothing but oil changes and service, the usual brake jobs, and spark plug wires once. That roarty old 4.0L is as reliable as an Airdale Terrier!
At 20,000 they recalled the Firestones, and replaced them with Michelins - I couldn't be happier!
If you look closely you will see a boiled Barlow on the edge of the box! That makes me happy too!

They are doing some landscaping next door . . . . .

Nice pickup, Waynorth. I really hope mine serves me as well as yours has you. Now all i gotta do is decide on a designated truck knife :D

That makes me miss my '02 forest green Tacoma. Four cylinders that sounded like an over stressed lawn mower when going up a hill, 17 miles to the gallon, give or take, and driven all across creation add I know, although others may call it the American southwest lol. Loved that trick, but doesn't quite agree with parenthood

!7 mils per gallon???

Have you ever had the engine checked out by a mechanic? YOu should be doing in the 20's. I have a regular cab Tacoma, 2002, 4 banger with auto trans, and it gets 23 to 24 in town, 26 on the highway with stuff in back or a light camping trailer. My 1091 Toyota pickup did about the same even though it had a 5 speed. Something wasn't right with that truck.

See ya all after the holiday. We're off to the mountains until Saturday, doing a little camping, a little shooting, a little grilling, and maybe even a little drinking. Ya'll be careful now!
