"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Glad to see you back, Paul. Hope things get better real quick.

Glad to hear your power has been restored, Paul! You'll have quite the stories to tell your son about his surviving the stormy weather of his early days!!

I haven't been here that much, and it's because of stuff going on at home. My old pup is about 14, passing blood clots, constant diarrhea, he can't keep food or drink down. Trying rice and chicken, keeping him hydrated, he only wants to lay on, not near but on, the wood stove. Have to move him off of it from time to time during the night. He also drags his mat over to the wood stove, and will cry if he can't move it. I know what needs to be done, but that doesn't make it any easier.

On top of that, I've been 15 years with a pair of wisdom teeth that needed to be removed 15 years ago. The pain became excruciating over the weekend, before the antibiotics kicked in, and I literally passed out in bed from exhaustion. To top that off, I have a horrible ear infection, they alternate off of each other. After going to the dentist last night, I got a morphine topical shot, and couldn't feel my lower jaw at all. Tongue, lips, skin, teeth etc, nothing. I was taking heavy duty pain meds, the dentist told me to take Tylenol and Motrin at the same time. In pretty bad pain right now, but nothing as bad as the weekend. Hopefully the new antibiotic from the dentist will take care of this. I've been going in late because I don't get any sleep, then fall asleep because of exhaustion, and then roll in to work late. Not good.

Woodrow F Call, your current avatar is Anton Chigurh, one of the scariest guys in cinema. All I can think of every time I see that pic, is, "Hello Carson."

Are you sure that picture isn't really Woodrow? The Coen brothers don't just come up with these ideas out of the blue. They get their ideas from someone, you know.

Hope today is a better day for you, silenthunterstudios!

Thanks Dr Scott. I feel ten times better after getting a new antibiotic and switching to Tylenol and 800mg ibuprofen together, per the dentist. Hopefully I can get these bastids yanked soon. Still have intermittent pain, but nothing like this past weekend.

Old pups are still hanging on. Every time I think it's finally come to pass, he jumps up and takes off like a shot. He's got to have energy built up, he sleeps all day long next to the wood stove. Still trying to get his cot on the wood stove, he even gripes when anyone moves it away from the woodstove.

Dan, it's always a tough call to make when the time comes, and when you know it is that time, it is a gift we can give to our beloved pets. Sadly I had to make that choice yesterday for Bart, my two year old grey cat. He had recurring medical issues, and yesterday morning he did not get up for breakfast. I take peace in the fact that he is not suffering anymore...

Aw, Duane. I'm so sorry.

You did well to take him in when he showed up and chose you. Sad smile.

Bringing these wee beasties into our lives means signing up to have our hearts broken.

I'm glad Bart had you, for the [way too short] life you shared together, and for your brave compassion when the time came-- far too soon.

:(

Thanks Jeff, and Sarah. He was such a joy, and a good playmate for one of his sister kitty's. She is going to need some time to adjust now, but in time I am sure another lost little furry one will find their way to our home.

Thanks Andi, it's the other side of the coin from having them in our lives...but they do give so much and ask so little in return.

Hope you're OK Paul, very cold down here, so I guess it will be colder still where you are

Jack, Paul, and Dan, Thanks fellas.

I just Googled your weather Jack, sounds like a cold, sloppy night for you folks. Stay warm

It certainly is! Yesterday we took a day trip to the big smoke that is Inverness. On the way down the A835 past Beinn Dearg I stopped the motor to clean the windscreen of salt again (my washing jets had frozen solid - tesco pure un concentrated screen wash good to -20 my furry ass!) and took note of the thermometer reading -12 Celsius. For us that's pretty cold.
