A Rainy day in Washington D.C.

So it's the time of year that the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Usually this means 'downtown' is a zoo, so Karen and I (well, mostly I) thought it wold be smart to outfox the mobs, and go on a Tuesday boring. I figured the working crowd would be back at whatever jobs they had, and the kids would be in school. To top it off, it was a gray chilly day. Push on, I said.

Here's the Tidal basin and part of the D.C waterfront. The big thing in the background is the Washington Monument.

Here's the monument to Thomas Jefferson, one of the best presidents we had in a couple centuries. Nice example of Greco-Roman architecture.

Karen had a private moment with George Mason, one of the writers and framers of the Constitution. I don't know what she said, but I was very jealous. George had a way bigger stick than I have, and it's solid bronze!!

Nice pics, Carl. Washington is a great city in the spring. We make the trip every couple of years.

Great photos Carl, looks like fun even in the rain.

When I was about eleven years old, my family I went into every site there.
Capitol, White House, JFK's grave, the Mint, all the great monuments.
Still remember it like it was yesterday....:D

Looks like a good day for museums there Carl.
There's gotta be a museum or gallery.:)

Great pictures, not sure I ever saw the statue! So much to see and do in DC! Many moons ago I worked down the DC Navy Yard.

Great pics of our nation's capitol, Carl!:thumbup:
You remind me a little of Teddy Roosevelt with your big stick. :D:D
I don't suppose you're allowed to use it to knock some sense into folks "on both sides of the aisle" who are representing us there??:(

Great photos Carl! It's a place I would love to visit some day. So much history made in that place.

Oh no. No,no,no.

Ya don't want to go to a museum in D.C. on a rainy day. Ya wait for a nice sunny day when everyone is outside to go to the museums and galleries.;)

Aaah you're so right.I didnt factor in the climatic variance .

Speaking of climatic variance about four days ago we got four inches of rain within 36 hours. Everything around here is slosh.
And we're still getting follow up rain although this morning the sun has come out to play which is nice.
James.

As some of you guys might know, I´m an active shooter at a local german shooting club. Well, so far so good. But we had a fire at the range on wednesday. One wooden wall and a lot furniture got destroyed. For luck, nobody got hurt. But we´ll need some days to clean up the mess. As it is, we have a challenge for military surplus rifles (100 metres) and lever action rifles (50 metres) where shooters from whole Lower Bavaria will be there. Kind of strange as there is the glass and ashes all around. Tomorrow we´ll get a whole day a cleanup...

Tell them you were celebrating Aprilfest and things got out of hand.

Bavarians will understand. :D
