A 'crisp' is a 'potato chip' in the US by the way! ;)

It sounds to me like a Chip Butty. In America we’d call that a French Fry Sandwich.

I suppose this thing would be a Crisp Butty? :p

It looks like a recipe for potato chips in your lap.

It is indeed a crisp butty Raymond, though that term is less ubiquitous (the word 'butty' once being almost entirely confined to the English North-West) in this case, mainly because - until now - you've had to make these yourself! :D

I imagine they have to sweep the floor of that place about every 5 minutes! :D

We have a starch-in-starch food in my family. My grandmother learned it in what is now Slovakia—back then it was part of Royal Hungary. She brought it with her to America, and taught her children.

Make a bread dough. Shape it into a rectangle. Fill the middle with a log of cheese-enhanced mashed potatoes. Wrap the dough around the filling and bake.

I think you're describing a potato knish. Mmm.....knishes.

Jack, is that butty just fries or crisps on bread? No cheese or condiments?

My mother couldn’t remember the Hungarian or Slovak names. What she could recall was a Russian one, pagach.

Yes indeed! :D I saw that Paul  It's time to worry when the cuisine of Norn Iron starts spreading! :D Did you ever have the Ulster Fry the two old girls used to do in the caravan in Belfast market?

But don't pretend that you weren't lured in here by those Tunnock's Teacakes my friend! :D ;)

Just a hello from a visitor here. I've always carried some type of lockback, favoring framelocks these days. But looking at some of the pics here, I can sure see why you folks love your slipjoints. Some beauties here! Anyway, I'm not here to start a lock vs slip argument, I just wanted to say hello. This seems like a nice sub-forum with a great group of people. :) :)

Apparently it's led to a massive boost in sales! :D

Get out.ive eaten heaps of those Tunnocks tea cake marshmallow things and Not Once have I found a miniature woman inside. Perhaps they dissolve on the way from Tunnockshire to Australia.

I do apologise. How rude of me.Gday LoneWolfe and welcome aboard porchside.Unfortunately you dropped in during a very important discussion about the validity of the Tunnocks caramel wafer and its place in modern societies. Its cold cake?investigation ...if you will.
I do feel however that the 'chip butty ' is an atrocity that should be cleansed from the face of the earth and replaced with a true delicacy for all true Englishmen ....mushy peas.

Something to do with the 'live exports ban' I think. I'm a Tunnocks wafer man myself! :D

I have a friend whose a novelist, and in one of her books, published 20 years ago, one of the minor characters is a pretentious artist whose speciality is reproducing great scenes from Scottish history with locally produced confectionery! I couldn't believe it when I saw the Commonweath Games stuff! :D

Now thats what I call the yarts.

LOL! :D

I'll have to try and find the book. As I recall his Battle of Culloden, heavily featuring Tunnock's Snowballs, brought tears to the eye! :D

Well............. I'm really not a fan of any caramel, but those wafers are OK. There's lots of other treats I like better, though. :D

Yes, apologies LoneWolfe, and welcome to The Porch - discussion here isn't always dominated by the discussion of junk food! :D

Mushy peas?! :barf:
