"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Just walked half the way into town, and then realised I hadn't put my wallet in my pocket! :grumpy:

Jack I have found that since I have fallen in love with traditional knives my wallet does not weigh near as much as it used to and is considerably less thick.

LOL! You're right there Randy! :D

We've talked about a small airstream. Probably gonna spend a good amount of time between Texas and Daughter jessica's place in California. Then there's some family in Georgia. The Airstream could be a home away from home. :D

Jackknife in 88 or 89 we bought a 84 Airstream Excella and pulled it with a 86 Ford F-250 diesel it was a great RV and left us with about 15 years of some of our best memories of our kids growing up. That old trailer still becomes a topic of conversation every time we have a family get together. You just can't go wrong with an Airstream.

Autumn, you've got to love it :)

You post some of the most amazing and beautiful pictures!

Thank you.

Cate

I'm sitting here on the deck and saw the picture sturzi posted again when Cate posted it and thought how much I love living in the woods on the side of a mountain. I took a couple of photos from my deck and thought I would share them. We have been on this land for 33 years and luckily no one has developed close to us. We have visits from all kinds of wildlife deer, black bear, turkey, coons, fox and so on. As much as I love the ocean, the mid west and many other beautiful places I have been fortunate enough to see for me Appalachia will always be home.

I'm not jealous. We have a skunk under the deck.
:D:D Best laugh I've had all day! Thanks, SP! :p (My wife cracked up, too.)

Randy, I'm still at least a little bit jealous; beautiful country! I'm glad you've been able to enjoy it for a long time!

On the plus side, skunks are supposed to eat their weight every night in bugs and mice, and rats when they can get them. I haven't caught a mouse or shrew in the garage for over a year, and I haven't seen a certain chipmunk in a while. He may have gone to his reward as well.

Last Wednesday after arriving home from work and as I walked down to the mailbox, I noticed an odd sound in the sky above me. Looking up it took me a couple of moments to realize what I was seeing since it was so unexpected. A B-17 Flying Fortress at few hundred feet altitude flying due south. It had apparently just taken of from a relatively small airfield about five miles to the north. First time I've seen one in flight.

Wow! Incredible sight Leghog! I don't know if you have seen any of my posts about Mi Amigo, the Flying Fortress which crashed in Sheffield during the war?

To commemorate the famous 'Dambusters' raid of WW2 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Chastise), there is an annual flyover of a British Lancaster Bomber above the reservoirs near Sheffield where they trained before the raid, but I always seem to miss it.

Randy, that's a wonderful backyard, consider me jealous :).

Nearby there's an airport where 4 airworthy Ju-52 (Aunt Ju) are stationed for sightseeing tours.
When the weather is good you can frequently see them, or most of all hear them, I'll never get tired of the thundering sound of those three rotary engines.

Thanks for all the kind remarks everyone. I am not very familiar enough with military aircraft to know what they are but occasionally we have military helicopters fly over our property. From photos I've saw online I believe they are Apaches. There is an area not far from here that is an extreme wilderness area where a lot of military training is done and I think they are associated with that.

Let me introduce you to my son's new dog, Tzofi Gene. Female half German Shepard/half yellow Lab.

Cute pup. leghog. He looks content. Congrats to your son and to Tzofi Gene.

What a beauty, Bill! Really a nice little pup. It seems like she is smiling while sleeping.
