"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Carl,

I lived in Texas ten years and it's a great place to live.
Great people and lots of fun things to do.

And also - everything in Texas is bigger, so you're going to need a bigger knife than your peanut, if you want to fit in..........:D

I can relate to what you're saying from past experience Carl. Hope that the move goes well for you and Karen, and that you'll grow to love Texas. I'm also looking forward to hearing about your adventures

What Jack said. Thank you.

Carl,

I wish you and your wife much happiness!

Remember one thing, just because you make/made a decision to move does not mean that you can't change your mind 'down the road' if you end up not liking a place whether it is Texas or some other state.

You and your wife are free to move or live any place in the USA and for that matter in many places outside of the USA!

Stuff is just 'stuff'. I am glad to hear that you did not make the mistake that many people do when it comes to holding on to too much STUFF. (I know many people do not agree with me on that issue. No problem.)

You have the rest of your life ahead of you - another phase for you and Karen. You may end up loving Texas - give it a try. You can always move back to Maryland or to some other state if Texas does not meet all or most of your expectations even though some family lives down there.

I hope that the rest of your move will be smooth sailing for both of you!

Take care.

Cate

Just walked half the way into town, and then realised I hadn't put my wallet in my pocket! :grumpy:

How interesting JB. I do that all the time.
I recently did an Ancestry dot com (only joking its a big ripoff) search and discovered that I have an ancestor-
The viking Torbjorn Thickskull the Forgetful who sailed from Grimstad in Norway during the 11th century.Legend has it that he and his longship crew were blown off course halfway across the North Sea towards England and ended up in the Humber or Trent -the rest of the fleet was headed to Northumbria and the up the Clyde.
This translation of the remnant of the ancient runic scrolls (no such thing) is all that remains of that voyage lost in the mists of time:

hwaet uppasek!
ik hak min helm und seax vergetten.
torbjorn y dikedd
wir njurly et ingerlan!!
ik kannt du bottle mikkowtit steer bak
grrr ye haf an sh=kollen dicker dan valkkres beksid
steer bak und shut de monen.

The remnants of this log are very fragile apparently from being soaked in blood.

Mate we could be related!!:D:p

I had hoped that one of my scout knife winners might find my eyeglasses in his parcel. Oh, well- I still have my car keys.

I just finished reading this whole thread (took a few days) and I think it's a wonderful place to hang out. All of you seem like great folks and I would like to start hanging around and interacting here. I have posted here a couple of times and on pg. 464 I started a story from my childhood. I never posted the rest of it because it would not let me I guess it was to large. Anyway I hope everyone is ok with my hanging out here.

You're still okay, Jack. It's only when you have to ask, "what's a wallet?" that you start worrying!:D

LOL! I'm not sure if I should pin a luggage label to my coat with my address on Carl! :D

Very good Meako! :D

Oh no mate! I lose mine for a couple of minutes half a dozen times a day, but (quite incredibly) I've never actually managed to lose a pair. Hope you find them

Good to have you here Randy, and it gives me an excuse to use this again! :D :o

The irritating thing is that I can remember everything except where I was and what I was looking at when I took them off to peer at something, started to put them down close-to and hip-high, then thought "No, they'll get [something bad, I don't remember what]", so I draped them over something a little above shoulder-high, further off, and to the left.

And I use them only for driving and television.

Autumn, you've got to love it :)

No matter what it is, if I go to get something and it isn't where I think it should have been it drives me nuts until I find it. Even when it's a tool and I could actually use a different tool to go ahead and do the job. Very aggravating when that happens!!!!!!

Thanks, that's the north part of the Churfirsten in the Appenzell Alps in Switzerland.
Or the simple answer, around here:

From autumn to spring these clouds are very common in Switzerland, when looking from the mountains towards the valleys and the flatter parts there's an awesome view onto a sea of clouds.
But especially in the winter it can be quite gloomy under the clouds, because this weather can last for a week no problem.

Here's another shot just after sunrise, clouds as far as the eye can see.

Thanks for sharing, Sturzi. Great pictures in any way... :)

Weather in the "Inner Alps" is indeed much different from outside looking or even any weather report could give to you. Im my location I tend to trust more to the Austrian weather report than to the German. It seems to be much more accurate.

Carl, it was good to see you my friend, thanks for the brisket sandwich! Much luck in the Lone Star state, the Old Line state will miss you, but these times they are a changing. Western MD and the Eastern Shore are more kindred spirits, but they are not the majority. You have done what is right for you and your wife. I'm only 36 and I don't know if I could make such a lifestyle change, but I'm glad I'm moving to PA eventually. Long live the Cult of the Peanut!

I will have choice words for you when I am shoveling snow this winter, and when I am sweating my butt off sitting still next summer ;)...
