"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Yep, that's a cool looking store, Rupestris, and I can't wait to read about how "[a]lmost all of your expectations were met and then some".:eek:;)

As for the lottery, my attitude is similar to meako's. I satisfy my "gambling itch" by purchasing slip joints online!:D

Spot On-and in that case I am an addict and you may refer to me as "Lucky Streak Meako the Crapshooting Cardsharp ". :)

Rupestris -those are choice old buildings -If you were to venture slightly further south and across an ocean you would find lots of them sprinkled around the country towns and outlying localities in OZ.
They are most likely to have closed and been sold as homes or galleries and such.

My name is Francis but nobody calls me that .
You call me Psycho!
Any o you call me Francis and I'll killya!

Lighten up ,Francis.

:p

I spend a lot of time researching 'stuff' on the internet, and often come across things I 'bookmark' to look at at some later point. I was clearing out some old bookmarks today, and came across this link - https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=2ThyM-8T1J4C&source=gbs_all_issues_r&cad=1 - An archive of copies of 'Boy's Life', starting from the first issue in 1911. It allows you to read them all online. Hope this may be of interest to some of you folk

Yes indeed! :)

:D

Fun indeed! And this is sitting here in my study with me. Was supposed to go to the range with it yesterday, but that plan was overcome by other events.

Excellent Leghog  I hope you don't run down the street waving it, while giving an Agincourt Salute! :D

Say Hi to your friend for me, does he still have his accent? Hey, it's not Ozzy Osbourne is it?! :D
To me he still has quite an accent but says he has lost it. He tales of being a soccer hooligan in his youth and is a fan of Jethro Tull. He came here while in his 20's for a two month vacation and met a girl. After a couple of years of a long distance relationship they married and he moved here. He had worked for British Telecom in Birmingham an went to work for a cable company when he moved here. After a few years came to work for the one I worked for and that's where I met him. He is a great guy and good friend for many years. He does have one major fault however, he has no appreciation for knives.:D

Terrible! :D

Apart from that, he seems to have settled in well ;)

This is definitely of interest to me. I recently snagged copies of The Dangerous Book For Boys and The Daring Book For Girls for my kids and we're really excited about them. It's a lot of the same stuff you'd expect to find in these old Boys' Life magazines. Very cool stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Good books I think :) I bought various various versions for my next-door neighbour's son when he was younger. I don't known if he ever read them. We have large gardens, and parks and woodland nearby, but he spent his entire childhood playing computer games, and is now a myopic 18-year old with bad skin and poor social skills, I'd be surprised if he can tie shoelaces, let alone make a camp-fire. A shame :(

Winchester Model 61 from 1954. .22LR.

Very nice! I used to have a Rossi pump .22 that I believe was based on an old Winchester model, maybe that same one you have. (My brother has the Rossi now.)

I love shooting .22 LR. We have an unmanned outdoor range out here where you can pretty much take anything you want to use as targets (although they did put up a fence to keep people from driving their trucks right out on the range and dumping large appliances to shoot at :D). I usually just take a box full of aluminum cans and some of those orange reactive targets (the small round one is my favorite, because it rolls further away as you shoot it). Always have a great time out there. Next best thing to having your own land where you can shoot whatever you want.

This is my favorite .22 LR rifle, a CZ Model 455.

Yes! Chemistry sets! :D A standard child's gift at one time! I think I was five when I got mine, I don't remember ever hearing about anyone ever getting injured because of one. When I tell younger folks about them now, they think I am joking!

Ha, yes! I love how the kid in the picture on the box is mixing the chemicals right up to his eyes! I remember my brother got one, and we tried an experiment. We mixed a tiny amount of every chemical in the set together. He was holding the test tube, and it started to get hot, and he got scared, and flung it out the open window. :D We were on the second floor, and it landed on the porch roof, stained the shingles a bit, but no explosion. We never told anyone. :p
