As well as can be expected I suppose. I'm still drawing air. :D:thumbup:

I didn't realize you were in the Boston area, Bob. I love that town! The people there were incredibly good to me when I was stationed at Ft Devens back in the 90's. Good times in Boston! I tried to get there every weekend.

Bob Greetings as usual!

Jolipapa I'd have a few drinks in that bar.. I don't think my Cat would actually approve though, she's a jealous little Madam :D

Another bizarre irritant about P-Bucket is that despite deleting quite a few pix it still shows me as having less and less bucket space. Less is Less..are they trying to make me pay??? They won't succede....

Thanks, Will

We have a local Winter Festival that includes a snow sculpture contest. We took the kids down there this weekend, and I thought I'd share some pictures of what the contestants came up with.
Unfortunately, our weather hasn't been as cold as usual this year. We have a lot of people come up from Illinois for this event, and it's not unusual for people to park on the lake because it's so hard to find parking in town. This year the ice wasn't thick enough to hold the weight of all those cars, and about 20 ended up in the lake. The fire department was out there pretty late into the night pulling all these vehicles out of the water.

Lots of lakes just haven't developed enough ice for safe passage this winter. It's gotta be concerning the more northerly folks who may rely on ice passages to get places.

Those ice sculptures, however, are amazing! It's like your town is in a Tim Burton movie. :D

From what I've ready going back years in their support forums this problem with used space happens rather frequently to their "free" customers. Apparently the catch-22 is that you need to reach out to Photobucket support who supposedly can fix the problem but it's impossible (?) for free customers to actually reach them.

Flickr has not given me any hassles except for a few days a week or so ago when their online image editor "Aviary" was having problems saving edited images. I don't fully blame the Flickr/Yahoo people for that, however, since the parent company purchased Aviary and I'm sure they are still in the process of fully integrating the services. Since the save problem went away, Flickr has worked pretty smoothly for me overall. It's nice to take a photo, have the app automatically upload from phone or tablet, and set the permissions/albums/etc. right there from your device.

That is a mighty fierce sea! I think I'd rather be inland today. :D

It's a nice area except when it snows a lot. Mostly an ocean effect snow today, but very strong winds. The only times I went to Ft. Devens was ice racing motorcycles back in the early 70's.

Yikes! I actually saw that on the news this morning out here in Arizona.

I think I saw a picture of Cory's lake on BBC World News.

This is really cool to hear, as we don't get much attention in our little corner of the world. It's kind of weird to me that news of this spread so far. It's not too uncommon for a car/truck or ice fishing shanty to go through the ice. It seems like there's one or two on every lake around here come spring. The noteworthy thing about this weekend was that so many went in at once. There was a bit of talk about it Saturday night, but by Sunday everybody was on to other topics. Funny that something that was such a small blip locally was carried so far.

Thanks to all who had kind comments on the sculptures and pictures. I have to admit that the pictures were taken by my friend, Ann. Most of my pictures were of my kids. :o

It got cold again today, and is supposed to stay cold for the week. If the festival had been held a week later that ice probably would have held.

To our European members that are posting about their weather, stay dry and safe.

Bob, I'll echo the comments that it's always a plus to see you posting.

Another passion of mine --- land navigation and orienteering. Recently received this toy. A vintage Silva Type 6 I believe to be from the late 1930s or 1940s made for the military market (likely Norwegian). The compass is Swede and the base plate Norwegian. The housing is domed vs. flat and the compass is air filled and induction dampened. The needle housing top is graduated in angular mils (6400 in a complete circle), and the bottom is graduated in gradians (400 in a complete circle) hence my likely correct assumption it was made for the military market. But which military? Would appreciate or Northern European friends here weighing in on my assumptions about year of manufacture and for whom manufactured..

Leghog I realize this is almost off topic and I am sure I in no way could even come close to your knowledge. But in the mid 80's when my son's were young I was very involved with the RA's (Royal Ambassadors) the Baptist Churches version of the Boy Scouts. As a group leader one of my duties was to teach compass reading a requirement for one of the patches in wilderness survival. I found myself so intrigued by it I nearly became obsessed. Somewhere I have some very old and even antiquated compasses I acquired during that time period. If I can find them I will post pictures.

I have a lot of great memories from RA's with my dad when I was a kid. I think Dad might have enjoyed it even more than my brother and I. This was one of the first knives I ever owned.

Anybody have HST's email address? He wanted me to email him in regards to one of my WTB threads but I cannot send him one due to there not being an option to do so when I click on his name. Thanks all!

Wow Barrett that knife is beautiful. I had forgot about those. Never owned one but I remember them from the catalog.
Make a guess what knife I'm going on the hunt for. :D

That didn't take long I found a red one on that auction site (supposed to be new old stock) and bought it. $22.99 and free shipping although a little high for the knife but very reasonable for the memories. Tried to grab the picture but it wouldn't let me so I will post one when it comes in. Thanks for posting a picture of yours Barrett or I would have never thought to look for one if you hadn't.

Nice! :D

I think most of my knives fall into this category, especially the latter part of your sentence-- cherishing older memories, making new ones every day. :)

That's great Randy! I hope short hunt becomes long term enjoyment.

Absolutely.

I've been pipe and cigar smoking (mostly pipe) for over a year now, and my old man was kind enough to buy me a nicer pipe for my 23rd birthday.

Smokes a lot better than the baskets pipe I usually get and I love this style. I was looking at the Savinelli Hercules, but the sales lady was just too good and convinced me on the peterson.
