"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Your photo links are not working, Jack.

Wierd! Must be the work of Loki! Hopefully working for everyone now! ;)

(It might be a site problem, I wasn't seeing pics in the EDC thread earlier, and they took ages to load in the Sunday thread just now.)

Glad to know you're alive and well!:) Ithought to you this morning when listening to the radio

Yeah, me too

Those are the cleanest "Vikings" I've ever seen!

:D

Well the guy waving his arms about is King Canute, famously fond of a soaking! :D

Judging from the age of some of the Vikings towards the end of the march, I suspect they hand out spears and helmets to all the local Boy Scout troops! :D And hopefully take their mobile phones off them! :grumpy:

Thanks, Jack. I see some sights that I remember from our trip there years ago. There were no Vikings though!

Great pics, Jack. I like the "scooter parking only - all others will be crushed", that's pretty definitive!(as is the no trespassing sign!)

Thanks guys :) I had to go back and check those signs Kris, that's actually a shop that sells comedy signs! :D Well spotted

They just left Crabtree & Evelyn. ;)

Interesting that some but not all of the vikings have had their spear points beaten into a button.

One of the guys pictured has a wooden sword too. Perhaps they're on probation! :D There were a lot of stalls selling weapons of all shapes and sizes, but none of them looked up to much to me. The knives all appeared to come from the same place - somewhere in the Far East from the look of it - and most were made from cheap stainless :(

I don't understand these kid's and their phones.

Simply the times we live in Randy. My daughter is six, so she is part of a generation that has grown up surrounded by technology. When we're out she always asks to use either mine or my wife's phones. Nothing wrong with that per se, but she has always been taught to put the devices away and pay attention to her surroundings when traveling. She can always take them out when she arrives at her destination. I'm training her so that Condition Yellow is her natural state; I don't want her growing up one of those self-absorbed morons that are completely oblivious of the world around them.

They just left Crabtree & Evelyn. ;)

Hahaha...

Back when I was in school I picked up a female friend on the way to a party. Prior to stopping by her place I picked up a couple of things from, you guessed it, Crabtree & Evelyn. She noticed the bag in my car and asked whose it was. When I mentioned the bag and its contents were mine, she expressed surprise, saying that it didn't seem like the type of store I would frequent. Fully secure in my masculinity, I told her to take the items out of the bag. She didn't know what she was looking at when she took out the cakes of sandalwood shave soap. I told her that I used the stuff when shaving with my straight razor. The snide comments immediately ended. She told me later that night that she thought the idea of me putting a bare blade to my throat sexy and dangerous. Lol...

One of these days I "need" another spear - I gave my last one to a buddy to use as part of his viking costume for historical reenactments on this side of the pond.

Oh dear oh dear
How quick we are to mock these faithful re enactors.
Histrorical fact: Crabby and Evil Yin were renowned in the 10th century for being 2 of the most violent ,bloodthirsty and dare I say it blokeish marauding raiders ever to set sail in the dragon ships.
Their most notorious method of torture involved using rough hewn pieces of smelly, old wood which they rubbed on the skin of their victims to cause pain.
After one of the poor writhing wretches had told where the golds and treasures were hidden he escaped.
Using the piece of wood with which he had been brutalised he fashioned a pair of clog like "shewn"-hence the name sandal wood, whence he returned to his village.
Sadly he was accused by the superstitious ,plague ridden lepers of having smooth, youthful skin with a wondrous scent -the mark... of none other... than... Loki!
The rest ,my friends, as they say is not history.

I thought I saw a wooden sword. And I thought the same thing. Bad Viking, Bad Viking,

But upon further inspection, the one I saw, is a long handled battle axe. The head can be at the bottom of the long wooden handle.

Last September, my middle pup Dock developed a bad cough. We found out it was heart failue, enlarged heart and fluid in his body cavity. Medicine helped for a while until the beginning of this month, we had to get the fluid drained a couple times. Yesterday, the vet told us he could die during the fluid drain yesterday, would most likely die that night, and she advised us to put him down. I held him when they administered the sedative, and felt his last breath. He would have been ten this fall. He was my walking buddy. My oldest Remington and my youngest Mack are great pups. Remington tacks up the road like a sailboat, diagonally. Mack will pull you down the road as if you're water skiing. My Dock was the best walking companion anyone could hope for. He was focused on walking, would power right beside me up hills and I feel horrible that our last walk was a week or so ago. On Saturday he was running and dancing around, barking for someone to throw his tennis ball, then taking it before anyone could pick it up, running off wagging his tail a hundred miles an hour. My boy will be sorely missed, I don't know how I could get through it without my 12 year old Remington and 3 year old Mack.

Great photos, looks like an excellent time. Thank you for taking the time to post them up.

A pleasure, sorry they're not of better quality
