"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Thanks for the story Student 762. Carl would be pleased with it. It captures the feel of self-reliance and an appreciation for nature.

Thanks for the kind words fellas. I have the opportunity to get back down to my hometown for nearly a month over the Christmas period and I'll be sure to try and pen a few words about blades while I wonder along those trails again

Good morning, folks!

I hope everyone had a most excellent Thanksgiving and, more importantly, that you have something to be thankful for. My Thanksgiving was absolutely wonderful, though I was a bit of a rebel and did not do a turkey this year. Instead I prepared a smoked ham that ended up being particularly fantastic.

It was also during this dinner that my younger brother gave me my combined birthday/Christmas gift, a 1971 Ford F100 Sport Custom. She needs a fair amount of work but I've been wanting a project for awhile now and just haven't had the time or ability to go and find something with good bones. My bother, already being an old Ford enthusiast, took it upon himself to go out and find me one. For those of you who know what matters, it comes with the ever desirable 9 inch rear end with overload springs and the most excellent 390 engine...

I am definitely looking forward to this project, its been a long time coming.

Student762, thank you!

Reading was a great rest after day of hard work. I think almost everyone in this subforum is an old fashion man (a little) with such quite place in his heart.

Last night's sunset with out buildings through the trees.

Then sunrise this morning on the way to a Dr appt.

Then a recent arrival of an old "Hammer Brand" pen knife with pretty good blades and AMAZING jigged bone covers with coined liners:thumbsup:

My wife wants me to build a truck next. Pics!!!

I knew someone was going to ask for pics... She looks rough, but I swear she has good bones. ;)

Here the beast lies at my brother's place, I haven't had the chance to dive in yet but I do know that one of the first things I am doing, probably today or tomorrow, depending on weather, is taking a lot of the "accessories" off. Then comes a rough checklist, then the money starts leaving my bank account, etc, etc.... I hope you all don't mind progress pics here in the future.

Absolutely love progress pics! If I knew where here I would show my project also lol.
Looks solid and straight. Body gaps looks to be even and straight. The damage in the door bottom I can’t tell if it’s rusted through or punched through. Hopefully the floor pans are good, but even if not it’s not to bad to replace those. Looks like your worst part will be finding straight trim when finishing her up! Good solid starting point. I’m a little jealous lol

Looks like the panel is punched through.
You should be able to buy genuine patch panels still? Either whole Door Skins which would be the better way or half door skins.

I imagine that the Lounge is a great place to post pics, it is the "off-topic" area, after all. You are seeing the worst of the body on that door there. It even has some really poor Bondo work done around the mirror area. The floor pans are in terrific shape and the body has very little "cancer", door wells are solid, no rust forming. The tailgate is a thing of beauty, I usually see those quite beat up. I really do need to go over it with a fine toothed comb and complete my checklist but I am still rather ecstatic. I just picked up a nice 4 barrel carb to replace whatever travesty the previous owners had fabricated...

Great pickup Padruig.
390 big block with the 9 inch awesome! What is the box? Manual or a C6?

Thank you! It has the C6. I probably would have preferred a manual as that is what I am used to, but considering everything else that I am excited about, I am not too bent out of shape about it. And yes, the door is punched through. That door contains most of the needed body work, though after I remove a lot of the "aftermarket" stuff like crude tie down hooks, the lumber rack, running boards, and diamond plating, I am going to have a lot of holes to fill...

Sounds like a real good starting point. Some folks are building those things staring with an oil stain.

Only problem with posting there is it’s GKD area. I get sucked into that drama (since I use show new posts usually) too often already for my liking. I’m trying to stay away from the kiddy playground area lol.

Ah, yes... I generally try to stay away from there. Though I actually meant post here in this thread, as it is the off-topic thread for this sub. However, I do realize that car related WIP posts could get quite lengthy...

Lot of beauty there both natural & man-made!

Not only is the jigging sensational and I see very cool tip bolsters but also those liners. They have different patterning/coining on them which is complex & I've not seen that before. Remarkable:thumbsup: No brass either:D

I hope to get that package off to you on the morrow my friend, been up to my eyes in work & arctic dark here.....

Thanks, Will

Has anyone heard anything from Randy recently, I've not seen him around for a week or so?

Jack, I was wondering the same thing on Sunday. I think his last post at BF was November 21.

Pàdruig Pàdruig I love those old Ford trucks! There is a guy near me in West TN that has a lot of those trucks in that range and parts too. If you want his contact info on down the road I could get it for you.
