"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Here's a once every 17 year visitor that is resting on my deck. Brood 7 Onondaga Brood Magicicada. Hopefully we'll be hearing some Cicada concerts soon.

So is it a bug or a show dog, with a pedigree like that?
I guess it's a show bug since they are seen every 17 years;). It's actually pretty interesting, especially spotting a few of them.

Thought you guys might want to hear about this. One of my local gun stores had an event for kids and family’s, in 2016 9 year old Samuel and his grandfather went flying (grandpa was a pilot) the plane crashed killed both of them. The family decided this year to throw an event in their honor. Free lunch, outdoors gear give away and archery/air gun shoot prayers for them, they are thinking about making this annual if so I plan to volunteer to help.

I find that it is cool that Cicadas figured out prime numbers a long time ago, so that the occurrences of 17 and 13 year locusts ever showing up at the same time is every 221 years.

There's a wildlife refuge across the river in Arkansas that my wife and I used to visit (still do, though rarely) that has a forested area. One year when we went it was Cicada season. The forest was full of them. The volume of sound was just amazing. Really beautiful insects, as bugs go, though outside of butterflies, I'm a dragonfly man myself.

Ah dragonflies, the fastest flying insect.

How I hated Dr Smith, especially after they turned him loose to alliterate at the robot. I kept watching it for the women, and of course there wasn't much choice in those days, with 2.5 channels.

Penny before Judy...she was much more...ahem talented.
Button your bubble you babbling birdbrain.
An interesting thing about Lost in Space is that it was piloted as a serious ,intense, realistic ,suspenseful space drama.
If you ever saw the first episode it is quite dark.
For some reason the actors and decided to ham it up....the rest is space history. Jonathan Harris had been a successful Shakespearean stage performer. His Dr Smith was so popular he was nailed to the character for the rest of his career.
Slience meako!
You monstrous mechanical misguided moron.;).
Many an afternoon after school and saturday morning.
Warning warning alien approaching.

So at least Jonathan Harris suffered for his babbling boobyism. I liked the first year best, in b&w; I still remember the cyclops that took both their laser rifles to put down. Though I could have done without the antlered chimp.

And you know, not only did they never kill Dr. Smith, apparently they never got around to instructing Will not to go camping alone with Dr Smith, no matter how often Dr Smith tried to sell Will for sausage meat or sex slavery.

I am a big fan of Boxers. My last one, Allie, died from heart disease two years ago, she was barely two years old....

With my new house, I decided to add to my family.

Meet Saxon.

Saxon is AWESOME Dylan and sorry you lost your pal a couple of years back. We lost Buddy Boy (my always avatar) a year and a half ago. They live forever in our hearts:thumbsup:

Very cool! I have a soft spot in my heart for boxers. My parents had boxers all the years I was growing up.

Thank you, fellas. There is simply something about Boxers that makes your heart all warm and stuff. This guy has me pretty wrapped I think...

Paul, we certainly can never forget those best of friends that we've lost in years past, your avatar is a terrific pic of Buddy Boy, he looks like he had nothing but love for life.

Have to post another pic, sorry guys. I did mention I was wrapped, yes?

I picked up this USA Scharade 8OT from a guy for $10 this morning. 1st knife I've bought since my collection selloff. It's super dirty with gunk caked on the blade, liners, pivot covers everything is really dirty. It looks like it's been stored in an old tool box or something. The good news is that the blades are full and it's really in good condition just needs a good cleaning, sharpened and oiled. Also it appears to be carbon. I'm gong to work on it tomorrow and I'll post a picture of the finished product.

I’m not sure I was aware that Boxers actually slept. Every one I’ve ever been around has so much energy, you have to check for paw prints to know for sure if it ever touches the ground.

What a cute pup!

Nice find, Randy! Plenty of life in that one, and it’s already broken in for you.
