Ya, I was a little surprised when I read the qualifications. I've only been a member for a couple of months, so no knife for me. But I'm over it, just placed an order for one of the GEC #14s coming out soon. They didn't have requirements for purchasingThat post count and join date restriction on the forum knife is going to cause some tears.

What we are trying to get away from is the issue we have had in the past of people buying the knife for the sole purpose of turning around to sell it at a large profit.

The intent is not to keep members out of this. We tried to make the qualifications reasonably easy to meet. If there are members who miss the qualifications in some regard, we'll look at their posting history.
The 1909 VDB is always a nice pickup.Local gunshow today was a wash as far as knives go. Just saw nothing interesting at all; however, it paid off in the coins. From a couple of different vendors I picked up a VG+ 1909 Indian Head cent, a VF 1909 Lincoln cent with VDB's initials, an AU 1909 Lincoln cent (no VDB), an XF 1944 Lincoln cent, a XF 1939 Canada cent, and an VF/XF German 1949-D pfennig.
This is for the British members of Bladeforums.

I do like the idea that you have to publicly post to get to buy. The old process where anyone (including non-members) could just click a link in the ordering thread probably led to some abuse of the system. The forum knife thread has brought out the lurkers who seldom post, but just read. It's also brought in folks who don't normally hang out in Traditional. All are welcome.

Gary and I are making a check sheet for Steve. There are currently 15 pages in the thread and we've covered 8 of them. From that 8 pages there are 155 names on the check sheet so far.

I have to say, having read through the ordering thread, it really gets my goat when posters start whining about not being part of an "elite". Anybody can join and participate in this sub-forum, and most of us find it very friendly and welcoming, and very far from snobbish. It seems that a lot of members outside The Porch have missed the whole point of the knife (some of them haven't even read Frank's post, let alone the forum guidelines). Honestly, the sheer avarice of some knife enthusiasts fills me with both horror and disgust - it's a KNIFE for crying out loud! And if you don't get one, it's not like someone is kidnapping your kids or something, you can stick around, join in the fun here, and hopefully pick up next year's knife![]()
That’s a good point about the forum knife discussion threads—anyone new to the forum who started by participating there would have easily made 30 posts and (almost?) three months.
Are you saying that a club knife should be exclusive to the members of that club? How elitist of you!I have to say, having read through the ordering thread, it really gets my goat when posters start whining about not being part of an "elite". I really don't think 30 is a high figure, though it'd be nice if people also posted elsewhere, apart from the forum knife threads![]()

I can see it both ways. I believe that there are a number of knife collectors, some of whom are specifically collectors of Buck Knives, who have no intention to flip the knife for profit. They want one to own and use, and I can't blame them for that. On the other hand, one of the things that makes this knife special is that it's an annual knife made for the people who post in this forum. I'm glad I'm not the one drawing the line on who qualifies.
My understanding is that this year, there isn't an upper limit on the knife order; they will make as many as we want. This takes some of the pressure off, in that no forum members will miss out due to newcomers buying them all up, and there will be less of a secondary mark-up (at least for a while)
No, 30 is a low bar. I’d rather people post around and participate in the community as well, but I mainly was reiterating how reasonable the standard was: if ALL one cared about was a forum knife, simply participating in the process of choosing would get one to the mark.
