Congratulations, Randy! Did you give him his first knife yet?

Across Europe the temperatures and prolonged drought this summer have been highly unusual. Even here in Scandinavia the heat's been on and scarcely any rain since May. But let's spare a thought for the people of Greece who have been overwhelmed by bush&forest fires this week. They and other inhabitants of the Med/Aegean are no strangers to summer fires but this one has been truly horrible, over 80 dead with many people being burned to death trapped on beaches near Athens.

The forests here are absolutely tinder and there have been a couple of small fires but I really dread a big outburst, the fire brigades simply would not be able to stop a big outbreak. When these forest fires break out people are quick to blame the authorities but the stark fact is, containment is the only option once it happens. People sometimes blame arsonists, could be or even 'terrorism' but it won't help the victims one way or another. Our thoughts for them may help, I hope.

I was just looking at all the GAW's going on and I love seeing all these folks that just want to share with others. Funny thing about the traditional knife folks they are incredibly generous. I intend to buy a candy bar so I can enter the TC GAW I had to sell all mine and it would be nice to win one. :D:D Here's a tribute to those that have gifted knives to me or GAW's that I 've won. I have a total of 62 knives left and all but 3 of them came from the generosity of Porch Dwellers. I also had to sell some of the knives gifted to me but the folks that had given them to me had no problem with that at all and were just happy to help. I can't help but think about all those that rallied around my buddy Bigbiscuit and his family in their time of need. What a great place to be a little part of.

Cooler and rainier than normal where I live. I am not complaining - it usually gets pretty hot and stays that way with only occasional scattered afternoon thunderstorms and long periods of no rain and 95-100 highs.

So far, I think we had one hot week, which was typical for the area. This week, we even have some highs forecast in the upper 70s. That is like a sign of an impending ice age around here. 70s for highs in July? Crazy talk.
