Here is my family's campsite last night. Free vacation, as we decided to camp in the backyard. I think I prefer this camping the best. Easy access to the house to get whatever you forgot, and brushing teeth, Girls can use the bathroom if they prefer. We cooked smores, caught fireflies, and took a nighttime plunge in the pool. And didn't even need to pack a suitcase!

I took the Jeep out yesterday for a quick trip with the family. We stopped for a nice little picnic at the top of the trail. Took a picture to show you all that California isn't all beaches and big cities :) Hard to tell but that whole valley is granite as far as the eye can see.

Sorry about the haze, California is on fire right now. Lol

Still a great pic John :) I am just re-watching Hell On Wheels and admiring the California scenery  I recently read a fascinating first-hand account of the first traverse across the Rocky Mountains to California, it was a fascinating read. I forget the title as I sent it to Dave @Horsewright, who I hope enjoys it as much as I did

Well I had a heart attack last night and I am in the hospital again for a few days trying to post with my phone.

Thanks to all for your well wishes. I feel much better. They did a cath and inserted one of those balloons in so I did not have my chest open. I have to say I've been treated well here just a lot different test and bad food. They are doing a nuclear stress test tomorrow and if all is well with that I might get to go home Monday.
I've been away from BF for most of the previous two days, and was sorry to hear about your health setback, Randy!:(
But I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better, and it seems like I know more and more people these days that can get back to their "normal activities" (or even better) after a heart attack. I hope your tests all go well, that you get out of that "Heartbreak Hotel" and back home soon, and can start recuperation and rehab!:thumbsup: You're in my prayers, friend!

best of luck on getting out of the hospital tomorrow Randy - good to hear they were able to clear things up with a balloon rather than cutting you open.

For anyone who may not have seen it - "Horatio's Drive; America's First Road Trip" - a Ken Burn's documentary of the first ever (1903) coast to coast auto crossing of the U.S. :)
Anything done by Ken Burns is worth the investment of time... I've learned a lot more from his films about the Civil War, Lewis & Clark and Vietnam than I ever did in school. :)

Totally agree Kevin. His Civil War series is peerless. Lewis & Clark is riveting. And that's not even mentioning BASEBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you found the Burns film interesting, read "American Road" by Pete Davies. It's set later, in 1919. With a young 1st Lt by the name of Eisenhower leading a caravan of 64 vehicles. After reading of his experiences, it's no wonder why he pushed the interstate highway system when he became president. The photos of the old vehicles are priceless. It took 62 days to make the 3250 miles.

Thanks Jerry. Can't believe I've never heard of it. That is my kind of reading for sure. Found it and ordered it! :)
