Carothers and Guns

Just paid for it. Should be here day after Christmas.

I know it has the Hillary hole but owner has already disabled it, which is what I do to the ones I already have.

I already have one without the hole but couldn’t pass this one up for the price. Crazy, there was a -5 model (no lock) listed right by this one from a different seller for $1250, no holster.

This -6 model I paid less than half of that and got the holster too!

9mm for bear??? Please tell us more.
She had the Smith and Wesson 7 shot .357 with a 5 inch barrel for hiking on our property in black bear country. But, it was heavy for her. So, she switched to a Glock 17. But all of the locally available 9mm ammo was hollow point. I felt she needed something with more penetration and had to special order it. I have had the unfortunate experience of having to dispatch a bear that was killing my goats. I can say that hollow points do not effectively stop them. I don’t hunt bears because I don’t care to eat them. But when they are caught in the act eating livestock alive, I want to stop them as soon as possible. Penetrator ammunition is preferred. The thick hide and fat of a bear can stop a hollow point before it gets to the point of being a terminal shot. 9mm would not be my first choice for bears but it is better than nothing and if that’s what you’re going to carry, a penetrating round is the way to go in my opinion.

That being said, no gun could compare to an Anatolian Shepherd. She lived with my goats starting at 9 weeks old. She never in her life lost an animal due to predators. Often it would appear that she was not doing much in the way of defending, but she always knew what was going on with her herd. She fought off many a predators. She would eat a baby deer without a second thought, but when her herd was kidding she would gently lick the sack and fluids off the first twin while the mother birthed the second. They are amazing dogs that operate on instinct and coexist with the herd in a way that humans never could. It was amazing to see her go through the herd with her head down mimicking grass eating to keep the herd at ease. Some of the goats were still around after she had passed, and that’s when the problems arose. IMG_8550.jpeg

I agree no gun is a substitue for the early warning factor and a good dog will occupy a predator and often deter them completely.

If you want another round to look at or compare how they shoot out of your pistol Underwood also offers a Flat Nose Hard Cast Black Cherry round I believe they are 147 grain +P that rate right beside their Extreme Penetrator 9mm and it's 147 grain vs 115 grain on their heaviest penetrator round I think? I've carried the hard cast in a Sig 229 in areas with a healthy black bear population, thankfully never needed to use it.

Taurus .357 608 was my favorite 8 shooter. Traded it for a VW Bug since my young HOT AF wifey wanted one , at the time . Ahhhh, the power of sweet love….

"at the time" could apply to when she wanted one or her attractiveness (or even your marital status). Proper grammar and use of punctuation there saved you. Good job!

I carry the Underwood hard cast in my 9 or 10mm all the time when I am hiking in Glacier. Love that round.

Bought myself a 54th birthday present today. 😋 SIG P229 Legion MOS in 9mm. Not sure which optics I’ll run on it yet. I gifted my P229 Extreme to one of my sons and had to fill the void. This one does the trick.

I love my P229 Legion SAO. I have a Holosun 507C on it. I always think about going American made but the price always brings me back and I love the Holosuns. I have a buddy that is all Vortex. I really like the circle dot. Come on Trij.

Thats a nice collection. If you have one in there you don't need......

I’ve actually got 5 of those models with the full rail. Crazy how much shite I’ve managed to collect over the years. Had to move 1 of the safes last week and found stuff in it I forgot I had.

It is possible one could become available sometime as I’m looking at moving to the farm within 5 years and need to whittle all this crap down before the move:)
