Carry two knives?

One of them just happens to be on my multi-tool, and I don't like it. So I carry a dedicated knife for a total of two knives.

at work:

1. primary edc for utility tasks, right sap pocket.
2. waved kerambit mainly for weapon retention, left sap pocket.
3. small sak on key ring #1, comes in pretty handy.
4. rei fingernail clipper/multi tool on key ring #2 (car key), comes in pretty handy.
-considering a small folder clipped to my vest or otherwise as a backup to the backup to the backup. ;)

at home:

1. primary edc, right back pocket (always).
2. slipjoint in left front pocket (sometimes).

I always carry at least two knives, and sometimes, I'll carry three.

Every day, regardless of whether I'm going to class (casual) or to an interview (formal), I put my Buck Hartsook around my neck. This is the bare minimum amount of knife I like to have on me at all times. I might change during the day to go to the gym or something, but the Hartsook is always on me.

Then, once the clothes are on, I'll pick out the primary EDC which for the past few weeks has been a Para Millie, Sere 2000, or my new Emerson Snubby.

These two knives make up my typical set-up. Recently however, I've started adding a third knife: a Leatherman mini-Tool, Schrade Old Timer, or SAK for use when people are around who might be less than friendly to a full-size folder. I'm in college, and I'd prefer to avoid the hassle of being reported for carrying a "weapon".

Call me crazy but this 3-knife set up makes a lot of sense to me.

I carry two but neither are your common folder. Clipped in my pocket is the Skeletool cx and hanging around my neck is the RAT Izula. They make a good every day combo for my line of work.

A knife is a tool and also a companion, sometimes one does both roles sometimes two are needed . I carry a Spyderco as a tool and a Chambriard for Compagnon!

Carry up to four knives. I like them super-duper sharp. I also like differtent grinds, handles and weights. Some knives just work slightly better for a given task, so why strain?

Beautiful Koster, Todd. I'll whip my HEST out in public too-and have had sheeple comment negatively on it. Funny part is the blade is an eighth of an inch shorter than the SAK they have in their pockets. The Air Force and SAS survival manuals both recommend having at least two cutting edges. That reason alone is enough to get me carrying two knives. Whether or not I may be put in a survival situation doing day to day stuff, anyone can debate-it's the principle. A cutting tool can save lives, including your own, and having something so small and light on you is worth it in case the other fails.
Arpaio, unfortunately, reflects many people in here that equate "knife" with the term "folder". IT DRIVES ME NUTS! You might as well join the sheeple herd! What is it with folding knives that fixies can't be used for EDC? When most of the time they are the more reliable and cost effective option? I just don't understand that.

what in the hell are you talking about??

part of being a responsible adult (or person) who is carrying a knife is understanding when and where it is appropriate to "whip" it out.

but ill agree with you regarding the other principals, having a back up is a wise decision.

and nothing arpaio has posted indicates to me in any way he is a "sheeple". simple question from someone who is trying to understand why some of us do what we do.

and btw, i am prohibited from carrying a fixed blade while on duty, otherwise i certainly would. and many areas prohibit fixed blade carry in some form, while folder restriction is far more narrow.

Do you know what the rationale is here? Also, is it CA law or dept. policy? What about in fulfillment of SWAT duties? Still no fixed blade??? Just curious.

The other day I stoped at the courthouse to pay my property taxes. When I put my metal stuff in the tray, I had five knives. That is what I usually carry.

My usual EDC is a Mini-Grip clipped to right front and a SAK in the left front pocket. The difference in uses speaks for itself. I would love to carry a fixed blade- not because I have any real need or use for one, but just because I have so many- but in Ca it must show or its an illegal concealed weapon. I like to wear my shirt untucked, so unless I wear it on a neck chain (or tuck my shirt around it) I'm pretty much out of luck. Plus I would definitely get told to take it off at work.

dept policy prohibits us from carrying a fixed blade knife.

when i was doing the swat stuff, i carried one anyway.

I can see you don't understand. Each of us lives in our own natural and social environment and each of us has different interests and needs. Criticizing people for speaking in terms of their experience is not appropriate in this forum. No one else here seems to have had a problem translating Arpaio's question into their own terms.

I have 1 folder on me and my keys have a small sak on it and a spyderco jester. Use those guys for really sheeple type areas or when i just need a itty bitty knife:P

Never carry a fixed blade except when out in the woods or carving some stuff up:)

i carry 4 daily. i use each one for different things all the time. that, and i dont want to wait for one to get dull before getting to test another.

I'll put it this way, I have gotten home from work with eight knife blades in need of major sharpening, and still had sharp knives on me. Those weren't cheap knives with soft steel either, most were S30V and ZDP-189. My work can be very hard on my knives, and I never know what I'll be doing an hour from now. So I carry different blade shapes for different tasks, small knives to keep from scaring tenants when working on something in their apartment, bigger blades for demolition, forty degree edges for rough work, twenty degree edges for fine work, and some just because I wanna. ;)

My edc is all about utility and as such I carry what I think can make my day easier... increasingly it's becoming whatever Spydie suits the day and my trusty sak for more specific tasks. One is none two is one, that's what I say:D

i carry 5 - 10 blades at a time. Some fixed, some folders. Most in my EDC bag, in a roll up carry. Use em all thru out the day

I collect knives, that is what I do. I don't golf, or play team sports, I don't collect coins or stamps or teddy bears. Knives are what I spend my money on. So as a result of my particular spending habits, I have a small SAK on my car keys, another, and a Swiss key on my house keys, a subcom as a money clip, a SAK soldier in one pocket, and a mini champ in the other pocket, the I usually carry 1-3 (out of over 200) other knives fixed or folder depending on jeans shorts or cargo pants. (more pockets=more knives) then there is a Spyderco Massad Ayoob or P'kal somewhere on me just in case. (anybody still keeping count?) this for no other reason than that I like knives. I had three on me in my tuxedo on my wedding day. Truth be told some days I really have to look to find a reason to cut something.

I don't carry that many because I think the end of the world is coming, or that I will need to "BUG OUT", or even for my own personal safety. I carry them because I collect them, I have an insatiable compulsion to buy them, and I like to play with them, I give them away as gifts. Lets see you carry that many teddy bears on a daily basis. (LEOs may still throw you in a rubber room if you do)

ps all my friends and co workers think I'm nuts, but I am still the first person they look for when something needs cutting.

I carry 5 actually :) I have my Spyderco Tenacious clipped on my RFP. In my RFP is my Gerber LST2. In my back pocket on my keys is my Frost Cutlery Raven Claw not sure of the name... Then around my waist is my Leatherman Wave. And last in my backpack is my Buck 110.
My Tenacious is for something that really needs cutting, like cardboard, zipties, opening letters etc. Its also there for self defense with its ghetto wave. My LST2 is for when im around people that are not to fond of knives. It does the same tasks as the my Tenacious. The Frost Cutlery knife is there for the case if i ever forget a knife i dont flip a shit for not having one on my person. The Leatherman Wave is there for random tasks such as cutting a tree limb with the saw, filing my nails ( which is almost never ) Or if i need to adjust a screw on a part or take apart my computer or need pliers to hold something. The Buck 110 is a knife that I dont know of a use for but i feel that it is a very beautiful knife and if someone asks if i have a knife to use and i feel like showing off, ill pull that out.. But up until now i havent really used it.. considering i just got it a couple weeks ago...
