Carry two knives?

I collect knives, that is what I do. I don't golf, or play team sports, I don't collect coins or stamps or teddy bears. Knives are what I spend my money on. So as a result of my particular spending habits, I have a small SAK on my car keys, another, and a Swiss key on my house keys, a subcom as a money clip, a SAK soldier in one pocket, and a mini champ in the other pocket, the I usually carry 1-3 (out of over 200) other knives fixed or folder depending on jeans shorts or cargo pants. (more pockets=more knives) then there is a Spyderco Massad Ayoob or P'kal somewhere on me just in case. (anybody still keeping count?) this for no other reason than that I like knives. truth be told some days I really have to look to find a reason to cut something.

I don't carry that many because I think the end of the world is coming, or that I will need to "BUG OUT", or even for my own personal safety. I carry them because I collect them, I have an insatiable compulsion to buy them, and I like to play with them. lets see you carry that many teddy bears on a daily basis. (LEOs may still throw you in a rubber room if you do)

ps all my friends and co workers think I'm nuts, but I am still the first person they look for when something needs cutting.

Post of the month.

My Wenger Ranger 51 is in my pocket at all times for practical purposes, while I have one of my longer - bladed Spydercos stashed somewhere in my bag (not for some tacticool self - defense fantasy) for fetish purposes :D The Swiss Cross is an instant pacifier whenever I inappropriately flick the blade out for some misguided purpose :p To each his own form of flashing :D

Why?

Nature and place of employment, really. Hospital environment. For some reason, I always seem to have this need to slice something open :) Yesterday, a half - dozen Manila Envelopes with applicants' files. Today, a ream of paper and a bag of jellybeans. While I really like my knives and don't believe that owning some really wicked folders makes me a criminal, people around me may not have had the fortune (nay, privelege) of growing up in a country where machetes grow on trees :D

Some basic rules to follow:

1. There is a time and place for everything.
2. Not everybody shares your views.
3. Common sense and basic courtesy gets one far.
4. Know your local laws.

Loved these comments...

...part of being a responsible adult (or person) who is carrying a knife is understanding when and where it is appropriate to "whip" it out.

...Each of us lives in our own natural and social environment and each of us has different interests and needs.

I don't need more than one knife. I do, however, like having more than one knife. They are fun/cool/toys, after all.

It is nice to have a big, thick, heavy duty blade plus a great slicing flat ground blade. It's nice to have a big badass 'tactical' looking knife and a more sheeple friendly, yet still capable, smaller knife.

I daily carry a ZT0200 and a CQC-8, sometimes I even add a Tenacious. I hope to add a Spyderco Military. A Millie and a ZT seem like a great pair

Yup!

Only that these "sheeple" are still people... Who simply don't share our views.

It actually doesnt, and ive been lookin into a backpack that is 100% water resistant and buoyant... just for that occasion

I always carry two, but never more than three. I always have a Vic Classic and a folder of some sorts...usually tailored to the job...Leek for daily use, JYDII or ZT for hard use, a waved knife if I feel that I may need a self-defense application(or places where I am barred from having a firearm).

So, when I carry three knives, I have the two above and a FIXED blade...those definitely vary in application.

I had a cute little Chinese gal deliver dinner the other night and I forgot I had a BRKT Gunny on my hip...she pointed at it and said "For self-defense?"...I replied no, I was doing some yard work. It led to a cool conversation about her protecting herself while delivering food. Not all people are sheeple...half of that "freak out" response is all in how YOU handle the inquiry or initial surprise.

The 4+ knife guys confuse me too :D

I've noticed that a lot of y'all carry two (or sometimes more) knives at a a time as EDC. I'm not judging or being critical in any way (truly not my intention) but I am curious as to why you would need more than one folder? It is for different blade styles for different applications? Or is it for a backup in case your primary knife is lost somehow?
Don't get me wrong, I own quite a few knives but only ever carry one at a time. carrying two at a time may elimate the predicament of waking up every morning and debating which knife to take with me for the day (lately it's been between my ZT 0300 and my Emerson CQC-15).

I carry two.....one is a soldier SAK, one is a Spyderco Armorer's Endura. Different knives for different applications.

On another forum I it put like this, one is an EDU, the other is an EDC. The EDU (every day user) is what is generally thought of as an EDC knife. It does all of your cutting tasks throughout the day. The EDC gets no use. It is generally a larger blade and it's purpose is SD.

This method allows you to use a smaller knife for opening packages while having a larger, razor sharp knife for protection.

Two is my minimum. I've always found it handy to be able to put a knife in either hand without reaching across the body to get to it when needed. Simply a convenience thing for me.

Paraphrased: I'm Canadian and I can't have a handgun :p:p:p

I usually carry 5 knives on me.
1 - Kershaw Skyline (With damascus blade)
2 - SAK Super Tinker
3 - SOG Micron
4 - Buck Nano Bantam
5 - Bradley Kimura

The Skyline is my go to knife. It's usually located in my front right pocket. I'll use it for 80% of my cutting tasks, however, I usually won't pull it out around sheeple.

The Super Tinker is my sheeple knife. It resides in my right back pocket. I use it mostly for it's scissors, although I will use the small blade to sharpen pencils or cut threads while in college.

The SOG Micron was free and it resides on my key chain. I don't think I've ever used it, but it hardly takes up any room, so I keep it there just in case.

The Kimura is my "sheeple scarer", and it's also a temporary resident in my left back pocket. I can't take it to where I shop or work because those places are in Maryland. I keep the Kimura on me for somthing to do when I get bored. I sometimes like to sling it around when sheeple are around. I think it's hilarious to watch a sheeple piss himself :) :) :) (That was a joke) LOL ROFLCOPTERZZZ

Isn't it kinda wierd to carry just one knife?

For any man with a set of family jewels, knives should be like Lays potato chips!

Nuff Said

i kinda think more than 2 knives (that is something that is only a knife not including a multitool, sak, tool card etc) is a bit much unless you have a job that needs it or are headed outdoors, but i still support your right to carry anything you want and as many as you want.

For personal carry I always have a FB food knife, a FB utility knife, and a folder and have use for each everyday. When outdoorsing add a large FB in as well.

Like some of the other guys here, most of the EDC fixed blades or folders are so light there is no reason to be limited to one. A food knife with gun oil or tape goo on it is not useful, nor is a utility blade with such a fine edge that it is vulnerable to damage during tougher tasks.

Finding just the right edge for your purpose is the fun, and using the perfect tool for the task saves time and effort.

I carry two unintentionally.

1- whatever I pick from the daily rotation.
2- there is a Victorinox manager on my keychain.

Mostly this is my reality, too. The SAK Tinker has 2 blades. The small blade is very reassuring to non-knife people, and the one I mostly use in public. The large blade is used for food only. The other knife is a small locking folder to use for harder tasks like heavy cardboard cutting, etc. This saves the food blade (on the Tinker) for just food.

Working on a ladder I like to have a one-handed folder reachable by either hand, as at any time one hand can be busy holding on. The Tinker gets replaced by a one-handed Trekker. That way I still have the other tools, which I use a lot. And love the plastic toothpick!

This is not a personal attack, but trying to scare people for fun is very childish and is similar to what a thug would do, as MORIMOTOM said "part of being a responsible adult (or person) who is carrying a knife is understanding when and where it is appropriate to "whip" it out."
