Carrying more than one EDC. Why?

wharnie in 3v.... Sign me up! I love Wharncliffe blades but the thin tip always worrys me. A wharncliffe in 3v would be real nice.

Mine is made from. 220" thick 3v. Tip is very robust but still good for precise work. It's a little beast!

I'm a firm believer that just one knife can't adequately address the variety of cutting needs one may encounter. Sort of like having only one screw driver, or one type of hammer. Obviously if you know what your needs are in a certain environment you most likely will compromise and carry a particular knife that will serve you best. For me a 3.5 to 4 inch Folding knife and a multi tool covers the most ground for EDC.

To each their own. Everyone has their own daily needs and level of preparedness.
Myself, I have one single blade folder in my pocket and if I'm driving, have a small SAK on my keys. That's it for knives.
Most of my trips outside the house are to the store, restaurant, bar or buddies house. So no need to overdo it.
If I head into the woods, I add a fixed blade.
I try never to carry more than I need, I learned to make due with what I have.
Sometimes enginuity is the best tool in your bag.

For urban EDC where I just need a knife for basic cutting task I carry only one knife on my person, can't stand being loaded down with a bunch of stuff in my pockets. I use my EDC as a basic tool not a means of self defense or survival so if I break or loose the knife, no big deal. I keep a back up in my car if needed, not going to put up with carrying 2 knife for this rare scenario.

Why? Primarily because I like to. Having a small pocket knife on me is a convenience for me rather than a necessity. I always carry a Victorinox Cadet for the variety of tools. I will sometimes carry another small multi blade slipjoint for the variety of blade shapes, in addition to the Cadet. Recently this has been a Buck 303.

Different tools for different purposes. Carry what you feel like.

Why not?

It's not against the law, yet. It makes me feel good to have some of my hobby with me. And if women can wear more than one piece of jewelry, then I can have a couple of my pocket knives on me.

So I do!

I agree!
:)

You cannot peal an apple and scare at the same time with a ear ring indeed! ;)

How can I narrow it down to just one knife?
They're all so pretty. :D

Because I can :D

But seriously, I have 3 EDCs on me all the time. 1 fixed blade, 1 folder, and 1 SAK. I think that covers every cutting task I could possibly have  :D

I usually carry 2 - 5 knives on me. A Terry Guin bali for most cutting tasks, a CQC8 custom that I keep hair popping sharp for when I need to slice something, a slipjoint of some kind for small mundane tasks. And when I feel like carrying something on my belt, a Swisstool X in a Lifter's sheath with an SLCC semi-hidden behind it. Specific tools for specific jobs.

I've come to realize that small blades are more useful for more things in my 'realm'. However, there's great convenience and utility in OHO designs, also. So, I nearly always have one clipped RFP w/me, subject to variety for office use reasons. Inside the pockets are a SAK, and normally a stockman of some kind for their selection of small blades, and NKP-friendliness.

I usually have three knives on me too... Different sizes, shapes for different jobs.
EDC RFP - A high end folder (Strider SMF, CRK Umnumzaan, Hinderer XM-18), large and can scare the sheeple, only use really tough stuff.
Belt Pouch - Leatherman Charge TTi - I use this extensively to cut whatever needs cutting, very flexible with the serrated and drop point blades, and I like the new one with the Micro scissors!
Neck - Busse Skeleton Key - The toughest small blade I own "Just in case I need her". ;)

I have a full sized EDC every day.

But in another pocket there is always a Dragonfly.

Certain situations lend themselves to a small inconspicuous knife

Dragonfly is going to be the perfect mono blade EDC.

I carry a Wenger Esquire for tape breaking, scraping, etc-- basically for dealing with gunk so my primary blade doesn't get coated in residue.

I also carry a primary folder. Lately that is a ZT 0550, ZT 0566, or Spyderco Manix 2 G-10. The primary folder does all of my cardboard, plastic, and wood cutting.

Last time I bothered to count I had eight blades available between my pockets and my bag. Some never get used like the blade on the Leatherman Micra, but for the others; different blades for different tasks. I try to keep my Spyderco Sage 2 clean for food prep. My Techno is my go-to blade. I bought a Buck Lancer on vacation in Seattle...I carry that one because it's quite the scalpel and it reminds me of the wonderful vacation I had celebrating my 24th wedding anniversary. (I felt naked without any knives, bought one on vacation and mailed it home.) Then there's the SAK in the first aid kit, one on my keychain, and a couple more that don't spring to mind right now. If I cleaned out my car I could probably come up with another eight or ten more. (When people find that you like knives and you are an older guy, you get them as gifts pretty often.)
