Carrying more than one EDC. Why?

I carry multiple knives, not because there is any particular need, but because I like them. I do feel a bit undressed if I were to leave without at least one knife on my person (which explains the Ladybug on my key chain). And sometimes, I like to carry something largish. Other times, I like to carry something sleek and modern. Occasionally, I like to dress up and carry something fancy. I know, it sounds like I'm picking out a handbag or something, but really, I can afford it, it makes me happy, and it doesn't harm anyone.

Because there are times when one EDC blade is simply inadequate for what you need to do. It could be too big for delicate work, too little for chopping away a rogue tree branch, too fragile for whatever hard use you encounter, or too high-end to be lent out to whoever's asking to borrow it.

Charlie nailed it: one to use, one to lend.

My EDC:

Victorinox Swisstool Spirit S

Victorinox Executive SAK

Spyderco Pacific Salt SE

Each thing I EDC serves a purpose(s) that the others can't. Truthfully, I could get by EDCing just the Spirit and the Executive, but the great blade, size, light weight, and ease of deployment of the Pacific Salt make it a must for me.

Because "Two is one and one is none".

After retiring from the Army as an MP, I still carry over the preparedness for multiple possibilities, defense wise.

Then there's times when people ask for a cutting edge to borrow, and you have to have the right tool for the job.

I'll lend the Cryo to cut a box and keep the Strider in my pocket.

My usual carry goes from 3-8, from pocket carry to keychain to whatever I'm carrying.

I carry 2 EDC blades because there are some tasks that I will not use my Sebenza for or one of my other nicer EDC blades. I need to have a beater with me just in case.

Vic Rambler (or Rally, the smaller one I own I keep getting them mixed up) + Leatherman Micra on the keychain can help you fix most small electronics and combine that with whatever knife I actually want to carry and use for the day. The 2 keychain knives never get their knives used, their just there for the most part and have been used only a few times over the last half decade. Those tools are just too handy to not carry, I've fixed a lot of things over the years with them. Though admittedly if I really did care about tools I probably pair it up with a cybertool or full size leatherman but where is the fun in that.

Leatherman Micro or Alox Cadet in the workbag.
Coin holder of my car has a Buck Vantage Small
Emergency toolbox in the car mini grip
My pocket usually has a mini barlow

Where else or how else to stow all the little treasures we end up picking up because of seeing other's with one on this forum? lol

Different jobs require different tools.
Two is one, one is none...Jack Spiriko

I EDC my SAK Super Tinker and ZT566
Work: I add the HK Plan D
Hiking: the Barkie DPH

I don't think anything is wrong with carrying multiple knife in an EDC role. It would make sense it you had a thin slicer paired with a tank of a knife. Or mutitool & pocket knife. Small knife, beefy knife. Fixed blade, pocket knife. Is there really one knife that is the master of all task?

This sums it up perfectly imo.

I think it was said already, because we can and it makes me feel better, at least to have some cool things in my pocket. Sort of like that little boy feeling when you carried your favorite car or action figure in your pocket to school. Lately, I have been getting into smaller fixed blades to place in the pocket such as my BHK Maverick colt or one of my Childress neckers, but also have my SA on me to handle most jobs at work.

I usually carry a high end folder clipped in my pocket. I also carry a Leatherman squirt es4 rolling around with my lighter and torch in the change at the bottom. The squirt is great as I use the wire strippers a lot, and it also serves as the "let me borrow your knife" blade. In my truck I keep a Busse SAR4 in the console. It doesn't get a bunch of love, but is there if I need it.

I EDC 2 or 3 on me, a small fixed blade and 1 or 2 folders. Most of the time when I am carrying 3 one of them is a Spyderco Salt SE Ladybug. I rotate quite a bit but one constant is that one of them will be a beater/loaner. I keep a larger fixed blade and a multi-tool in my bag.

For me it would be a folder and an SAK. The folder cause I often use it while I have one of my hands full, so I need a 1 handed opener that I don't have to dig in my pockets for. The SAK for the other tools.

Ahh beat me too it tis the truth "two is one, one is none"

I go by this rule, even though it may seem a bit of overkill at times, I just feel more comfortable having at least a couple of blades on me at all times.

Different blades for different usages, I'm an adult; I can carry anything I want within the parameters of the law, and I _really_ like knives.

Tanto for boxes
Recurve for rope
Clip point for general use
Fixed blade for heavy tasks
SAK for the tools and options (I also use this as my lunch mate)
Mini multi-tool - pliers and screwdrivers.

Could I survive for a day with just one of the above; Yes
Would I want to; No - My OCD kicks in when I feel like I'm missing something. With anything less then 2 or 3 knives, I feel like I'm missing something.

I like to have one blade that I will do just about anything with, and one blade that is used for delicate tasks. This is a habit I picked up carrying multi-bladed traditionals. One blade was used for rough work, and one was always razor sharp and ready for finer tasks. To accomplish this with modern, single bladed knives, I must carry more than one knife.
