Carrying multiple knives

I typically try not to put two knives in my pockets as I am trying to lighten my load a little as I get older. Now I usually carry a PM2 or similar sized OH knife in my pocket. In my backpack I usually have a vic classic or lady bug clipped on the keychain holder for emergency or use in front of muggles or NKP (non knife people). I have considered carrying an alox cadet in my cargo pocket as a second but have not really pulled the trigger on that as it felt too redundant to me. For a long time a cadet was my EDC and for most daily use I didn't need anything else.

For my purposes I am trying to find the perfect knife so I do not need to carry more than one. Looking for balance I guess.

If you count the small Victorinox SAK on my keyring, then yes, I usually carry multiples.

Generally a couple, usually one sheeple-friendly like a SAK, so as not to cause a stampede, and another that I can tote unobtrusively, like my Sebbie 21, Para 2, American Lawman, Cabela's D2 Grippie, Buck Custom Shop 112 or BassPro 110 (not all at once... usually).

Thanks, I kinda like this one more now though ;)

Congratulations.

I usually have two and also often have a SAK. Today I am carrying a S110V Military, Super Blue Delica and a Vic Craftsman. That is a good representation of how my daily carry usually looks but the actual knives do rotate a lot.

Usually 2 and sometimes 3.

1. SAK Classic on my key chain always.
2. EDC knife (Ontario Rat 1 in D2 or Spyderco Delica are the top 2)
3. LM Multi-tool. I might carry the MT + EDC knife depending on what I'm doing or where I'm going.

I tend to carry 2-4 most times. One is simply in a pocket organizer with a lighter and light that I like but don't love. It has been a large stockman but it's been an ATS-34 bladed AG Russell muskrat for the past few months as the smaller blade is easy to re-sheath in the organizer at the bottom of my pocket. I often have a modern tactical folder, most often a mini-grip, for dirty stuff. I then have the 2017 forum barlow in the coin pocket or a belt sheath for food. The barlow and tactical folder aren't always carried together as the barlow tends to stay on the pants with the belt sheath until they get washed. I always have a modern folder in a vest and/or jacket pocket as it's easier to get to than a pants pocket when I'm wearing those, especially under a production floor smock or lab coat in our QA lab.

I used to do only the dirty blade, clean blade thing with multiple blades but after a period of always getting tape residue on blades, I dedicated a "dirtier" blade to that, that I won't let go near food anymore.

If I'm out in the woods for a hike or something where I expect to cut something I'm going to have several size fix blades, probably 3, and a folder or 2. Sometimes just because but partly because big blades work better for big blade things and little blades work better for little blade things. The folders are for quicker in-n-out tasks like trimming a single branch or taking the tip off a branch/tree that is too pointy after taking it down with the big knife when clearing trail. Loppers are more ideal sometimes but knives/machetes are more fun and certainly more versatile if I need to clear some grass by the Creek side.

Normal days - always 2 knives.

1. SAK Cadet or Pioneer - gotta have a bottle opener
2. Locking folder or mid sized traditional

Dressy days - 1 knife

A traditional of some sort

Outdoorsy days - depends on what the plan/job is

1. medium size multi-tool/SAK
2. fixed blade - reasonable length variety

About 95% of the time ZT 0562 or similar clipped in RFP and a Spyderco Dragonfly in LFP.

ESEE 4 and SAK Pioneer, if out in the woods I add an Ontario 12" HD Machete
Sometime if just hanging around town I'll carry a large folder and the SAK

Great question, makes me feel less like a "knife nut" to know I am not the only one carrying "multiples." Having said that, I always want to have an SAK or a multi tool on me. Perhaps its because I was a boy scout, you know, wanting to be prepared. At least one folder on top of the SAK or tool, and I sometimes will just grab a small fixed blade, mostly because I like them. Truthfully, I have never been out to dinner with my wife or friends and had a need to pull out a multi-tool, but I will still take one every Saturday night when we go out. I also tend to carry more based on the season. Living in NY, when it gets to be this time of year I have more coats and shirts with pockets on. More pockets simply means more places to put knives.

Does anyone else fear that a "non-knife person" might ask you how many you have on you and you know that if you tell them they just won't understand??

Cosmo,

I never fear anything a non-knife person has to say about what I carry, but then, I'm in Texas, so I seldom run into any NATIVE Texan who has negative comments about my carrying multiple knives.

Those individuals who do make negative comments about my carry preferences are invariably "imports" from some other state or even some other country.

THIS VVVV is MY standard run-of-the-mill EDC load out.

The only occasional changes to this is to drop the wallet, thumb drive, digital recorder and challenge coin when working strictly around the farm and to exchange one of the Kabar 125Xs for something larger, say a BK9, a Kabar 1217, a machete.

And I do drop down to just the Buck, the rigging knife and the BK11 when I'm out at my throwing range with a dozen+ throwing knives, a dozen+ tomahawks, 8 or 9 "other" assorted hatchets, small Condor double bit axes and 3 28" 2-3/4# double bit axes. :D:D:D

Main blade's zt 0450,zt 0460,benchmade mini grip g10, spyderco mantra and always victorinox classic of some flavor in bottom of same pocket.

Lately I have been carrying two regular knives; a Vic SAK and Steel will Mini Cutjack on my person. Will almost always have a Leatherman Squirt on my key ring if I leave the house. Technically, that's three but I seldom cut anything with the Squirt. I will have more knives in my field bag that I keep inside my work vehicle on jobs. There are at least three more knives inside that. If I head to the woods, I'll usually have a middle sized fixed blade on my belt and whatever is in my pockets normally.

For the last 3 weeks, I’ve carried spyderco ti-military, zt0804cf,and an Ontario rat1 in d2. Since yesterday, I added a zt0909( it was $130 at knife center)

If you catch me mon-fri I'll more than likely have these 4 on me. Weekends usually one or two depending on what I'm doing. Resized_20170911_104300.jpeg

Cold Steel Recon1 as a semi regular blade. I am a retail manager so I always carry it but use "less threatening" knife in most situations. I usually carry a small box cutter (lame I know). I use my Leatherman juice S2 often to cut stuff around some customers. Just yesterday I added a Cold Steel lucky to my EDC.
When I'm not working my retail job I'm usually doing sub-contracting or other manual labor to make ends meet. In this situations I usually carry a CS Canadian belt knife (yes I love Cold Steel) a very underrated utility knife, a Case trapper, and a Leatherman Rebar, another underrated tool.

Just one, never felt the need for more in suburbia. Of course that "just one" is probably one of 25 folders I have. Never carry a fixed blade with me around town.

The only reason I carry more than 1 is for different materials I may need to cut. Like marcus52AR I carry less if it’s a free weekend or when I’m out. The military is a letter/package opener, the OKC is for rugs/dirty cardboard, the ZT for discrete or nighttime use. Out of curiosity when you said “never felt the need for more in suburbia” what did you mean? Fear of discovery, using knives for safety, etc, or just not usually needing to cut anything .?
